"Love. When I think of it a lot comes to mind. And not just the cheesy romance kind, but that kind you feel around the holidays, where giving is a pure necessity. Love that comes from a mother when she holds her baby for the first time. When a random stranger at school helps you jump start your car or when a friend buys you your favorite drink from that local coffee shop that you're currently obsessed with. It's everywhere and it's inevitable. We all have it in us, then it's up to the people who come into our life that can help us understand our meaning of it. Sometimes we don't choose who comes and goes in and out of our life. I think that's already written in the stars way before we know it. I believe that when we're in heaven or a higher place or whatever you may believe in; I feel that right there is where our souls meet and God or the Universe says "sometime in your life, you will meet. And whenever that may be just know that it is for the right time and the right reasons.""
"But if they leave? If a tragedy happens? Then what was it all for? Why is it a good reason for them to come in your life if they're just going to leave?"
"Well, I'm not too sure. I just know that everyone plays a part into shaping you to become the woman you strive to be. You know what a wise person once told me?"
"What did they tell you?"
"They told me, if you love them, let them go and if they come back it was meant to be."
"What if they never come back?"
"Then they were never yours to begin with."
Back to Fabiana's POV
It's a cold October morning and the leaves are scattered all on people's yards, it's full of brown, yellows and reds. The sky is grey and it smells of burning fires and bacon in the air. Every morning is like this in Colorado. In the morning it's freezing cold and by 3:00pm you don't even need your coat anymore. I finally moved back in with my mom. We talked over things and even though things aren't perfect between us, it had definitely cooled down. Since it's Saturday, I do my fair share of cleaning then head to Raf's. He's taking me to his family's ranch which is in a different town about 30 minutes away. I had been a little down lately since the incident with my dad. We hadn't talked since the incident on my birthday, well he hadn't called and I wasn't going to be the first to suck up to him like I usually do. Rafael takes his truck, it's already warm enough to roll the windows down which I love. The playlist on his phone shuffles to Crash Into Me by the Dave Mathew's Band which is literally my favorite song in the whole world.
"Turn this up" I say as I stick my arm slightly out of the window to feel the warm autumn air blowing.
I'm singing loud and a little obnoxiously, he probably thinks I sound so stupid but I don't care, I want to feel care free right in this moment.
Rafael's POV
She turns up the song to the point where other cars can hear it and I'm sure they can hear her singing too. I love her singing, even when it sounds bad. Her hair is flowing through the winds from the window blowing air, she looks so perfect as strands on her hair cover parts of her eye, nose and lips. When she laughs, it sound like heaven. When she asks me why I always joke around too much it's because her laugh brings fulfillment to me ears. Everything goes away. Every bad memory, every stressful day, every bad thing disappears when she looks at me. I want to park this car, hold her precious hands and kiss her right now. But nothing would make me happier than to show her where I grew up, because she would love it and she would be happy. And I love her being happy as much as I love her.
After we drive past the desert areas and reach the little farm town, we shortly arrive at my family ranch. Right next to it is a house, where my Abuela and some of my uncles live. As soon as we entered the house, my Abuela hugged Fabiana so tightly and gave her a big kiss on the cheek. She has to stand on her tippy toes because my Abuela is so little. We eat fresh tamales, beans, rice, tortillas and enchiladas with green chile. Everything tasted how it did in my childhood and I know this is everything Fabiana had growing up. Everyone who lived in Poblano were fed beans and rice from the start. This was signature and I would miss it too much if I ever left. Finally I take her to the stable to meet all the horses.
"You can pick one, which ever one you like." I turn to smile at her, seeing her face glow as she passes by each stall, admiring each horse. She stops at the last one, the horse is tan colored and has a few spots on its face and back.
"This one is beautiful, what's his name?" she puts her hand out for the horse to smell her.
"That one is a she actually, and her name is Daisy." I talk to her as she smiles with excitement.
"I'll ride Daisy, she's my favorite." I bring my all black horse, Flash, and Fabi's horse to the field. I put the saddles on each one then prop her on top showing her where to put her hands.
"What if I fall off? Maybe I'm a little too nervous and Daisy could sense it." Her face is puzzled and I look down and chuckle.
"You're not gonna fall off because we're gonna go slow, I won't let you fall." I go on again showing her what to do and what not to do. Once she gets the hang of, we're both on our horses right next to each other, going down a field of grass that is so surprisingly green still with yellow dandelions sprinkled everywhere. The sun was shining so bright for a day in the fall. It dripped with gold and covered the trees with it. When I turn to look at her, the sun brought out the honey in her eyes and brown hair and shined on her skin and brought out her freckles. It's as if the sun was made specifically for her, she wore it so perfectly. I get closer and she takes my black ranchero cowboy hat right off my head and rides faster. She laughs while I try to catch up with her. And there's no where else I'd rather be.
