Celine's screams echoed through the stone walls of the Volturi castle.

Dark black veins covered her face as she struggled to get a grip on the silver thread in her mind that seemed to linger right in front of her but the darkness pulled her away from it.

Her violet eyes that had changed to a maroon was now a pitch black void of a never ending oblivion of something demonic.

She let out another guttural cry as the black vines that surrounded her wrapped around her arms and legs and anchored her there.

A burning sensation sparked in the tips of her toes and fingers, it was like little pricks but soon it spread like a wildfire that threatened to destroy her.

Celine felt as if she was being burned alive at a stake. It was pure agony, she wanted to this to over with, she wanted to never feel the pain again.

She wanted to end her suffering.

Was this how Jane and Alec felt when they were being burned alive, just wanting the pain to be done with?

The silver thread was dangling in front of her eyes, like it was waiting for her to just move her fingers and it would be in her grasp.

Suddenly, the string disappeared from her.

Her black eyes widened as she clutched her heart that was scorching and she let out a final scream.

One that was the most loud, most agonizing one that made the Volturi kings who desperately wanted to go back inside, break down in despair.

Then it stopped.

The screams, the pain, the feeling of being strangled just stopped.

There was silence in the room of Celine, as she was on her knees staring outside the balcony of her room.

A nightly breeze flew in and the curtains rustled and what came to her view was the full moon.

It looked so enchanting, so mesmerizing that wanted to reach and grab it and keep it forever.

She was named after Selene, the Goddess of the Moon.

Maybe that was why she was feeling a strong pull to it that made her stand up, the black vines disappeared in into the ground as she forced her feet forward to the open balcony.

Her feet carried to the edge. She gripped the railings and just stared at the bright silvery moon that glowed just like her hair.

Her maroon eyes started to lighten from her pupils following her whole iris and it turned to its ethereal violet shade.

One look at the moon was enough for her to return to her angelic look.

Why was she so special?

The door slammed open and she heard the loud thumps of footsteps that echoed to her way but she didn't spare them a glance, her eyes still on the magical moon.

She felt the worried and confused stares that bored onto her back but she payed them no mind.

"Celine?" Called out a voice that she all too well. It belonged to someone she loved very much only to be lied to and be kept secrets from.

"Aro." She acknowledged.

"Are you still in pain?" He asked softly.

She scoffed lightly. "I was feeling quite alright a few moments ago, up until the door opened and some vampires came in to disrupt it."

Aro didn't say anything and chose to keep his mouth shut but Marcus had other plans.

"I know you hate us....loathe us even, but please...we have an explanation for all of this...and when you're ready, we will tell you."

Marcus was the one who always had the right words to diffuse the tension in situations of conflict.

This was also a case of that.

"Well...until that time comes....I need you all to stay away from me...all of you."

Multiple voices erupted from behind her, all the way from Caius' disbelief to Jane's pleading.

Her heart ached when she said those words. Never would've she believed it if someone had told her that she would be pushing away the people she promised to love forever.

Gathering her thoughts and thinking through all of this alone was the only way she could calculate her options and come to a conclusion onto whether or not she would forgive them.

She needed time and space.

It was the right thing to do.

Was it not?

Through all the voices that were bickering, one stood out the most. The most heartbreaking tone she'd ever heard along with equally heartbreaking words.

"I understand."

It was Marcus.

Wise and loving Marcus.

Tears fell from her eyes and the hoard of vampires silenced taking a moment to process his words.

"Thank you." She whispered as the moon goddess watched from far away, her daughter's tears that was witnessed by her and only her.

"We will leave then." Marcus said in a somber voice as he looked at the rest of and shook his head before walking away.

Everyone looked at their Queen in sorrow before following the king until the only two left were Aro and Caius.

"What are you waiting for?" She was sniffling but her voice managed to remain strong.

"Our mate." Aro whispered.

Celine closed her eyes, the grip on the railing tightened as she was desperately trying not to break down in front of them crying and sobbing.

"She will see you when she wants to." She said in a low whisper, loud enough for them to hear and their shoulders slumped.

"I love you so much, Celine." He said before turning to leave as well and now only Caius remained.

"Celine, you lied." The blonde king said, his eyes downcast on the floor as he clenched his fists.

"About w-what?" Her throat was aching from holding the lump that formed, that threatened to lose her composure.

"About not being a monster." He let out a breathless chuckle. "I'm a monster and now you know it."

Those were the last words she heard from Caius Volturi before he left, closing the door gently behind him.

They were gone and she was now free to unleash all the emotions she was desperately trying to hide from them.

Celine collapsed on the floor, her hands gripping the railings as she sobbed.

She cried to Selene about what she did to ever deserve a fate like this?

To have found her mates and thought she could live happily ever after like in those silly stories.

To have her mother locked up by her own lovers like an animal being kicked.

To have a demon in her that could potentially kill everyone she loved.

She wanted to go back to her old life.

When everything was simple.

No mates. No crown. No children. No responsibilities.

Just her. Her mother. Her violin. Her butterflies.

She wanted to run away from all her problems, run away from the dangers of this world, tucked away into a secret corner.

She wanted to go back to being naive and oblivious.

She didn't want to clash with the cruel and unforgiving world that she has now made her domain.

But she knew she couldn't.

It was her choice to be here.

It was her choice to stay with her mates.

It was her choice to be a Queen.

If those choices were all made by a drunken consciousness, this one was made by a sober one.
