Chapter 35

Father

How would I treat him now? Should I give him the cold shoulder? Perhaps, pretend that I did not hear anything, and just continue my usual and normal behaviour toward him? How about I give him the benefit of the doubt? I was not even able to think straight, my mind had set on his answer. Only answer that made my heart dropped.

Damien was engaged with Victoria, he had just confirmed it straight to my face although he did not know that I was half asleep, fighting the urge to take another nap as he carried me, walking beside a certain man that he was talking to. What if he knew that I was not sleeping? Would I hear the same response?

Couldn't I just stop thinking about it? Why did the man even asked Damien in the first place with that kind of question? Not unless if the man was blind, well, couldn't he see me? Carried by Damien in an intimate, and too close position that no one would think we're just some sort of friends.

Of course, at the first glance at us with me in this position, people would know that we shared something.

Earlier, that time, I had heard someone mentioned where we're at. Airport. We're finally leaving California, Los Angeles. I did not want to wake up and face Damien, cannonade and enfilade him with my questions, confront him about Victoria as his official fiancee with a blitzkrieg of unsympathetic judgments, along with insults for lying to me.

If I could do those things, but I could not. I was not inhumane, and I knew that if I did it, I would definitely break down with overflowing emotions. Obviously, I did not want that to happen.

What I did next have not hurt me. I forced myself back to sleep and forget about it.

Apparently, I was already stressed, and I did not want to add another problem. My care for this baby inside my womb was stronger than any pain that his or her idiotic and moronic father would emotionally inflict upon me. It benumbed me, even so I was not affected by cold.

Soon after, I became unaware of where I was, at first I told myself that I would just take a nap, wake up later to come have a fresh and clear mind to think of an idea how to open the hair-trigger subject with Damien, but I did not expect to oversleep.

I woke up, covered with a silver grey fleece blanket, laying on a comfortable cream coloured bed that could be occupied by only one body of a person. It was not that big, like it was purposely made and placed here for anyone to have a quick sleep or rest then leave after.

I saw the aircraft cream drapes were closed, separating our area here from what was behind the curtains. At least, we had privacy.

Without being informed who was behind the closed drapes, I knew it was Damien, his brothers and those other men that I heard earlier.

"Akala ko hindi ka na magigising, eight hours kaya ang tulog mo. Nag-aalala si Damien, hindi ka naman daw madalas na natutulog. Masyado kang nagpapahalata," bungad nito habang kinakamay ang kinakain, at nakapokus ang mga mata sa pagkain, ni hindi na nag-abalang lumingon sa akin. "Are you hungry?"

Lumipat ang paningin ko sa kinakain nito sabay upo mula sa pagkakahiga at inalis ang kumot na nakatakip sa kalahati ng katawan ko.

My mouth watered from the sight of lobster, crabs, and shrimps. Looking reddish and orangish. It was well cooked, not raw, not even overcooked. Seeing Anastasia pigging out, having surfeited herself on seafoods that could be safely eaten during pregnancy of a woman, had urged me to get out of bed and sat on the opposite airline seat in front of her.
