"28 hours, 14 minutes, 7 seconds. 28 hours, 14 minutes..." Toby kept saying as he, JT, and Mickey walked up the steps of the school.
"Would you stop with the countdown, please?" JT said to Toby,
"Yes, please" Mickey agreed with JT
"Sure, you've got Parents' Day in the bag," Toby said.
"Well I do, Scene I'm not going, but JT," Mickey said
"Yeah, you Einstein. Me, brain-dead." JT joked,
"I mean, your parents aren't homicidal maniacs," Toby said to JT.
"I thought Kate and Jeff were getting along great," JT said,
"I'm not talking about Kate," Toby said, meaning his birth mom
"Whoa. Your mom's coming tomorrow?" Mickey asked
"Oh, man. I should sell tickets. Remember that time at camp when they both came to pick you up?" JT joked
"Don't remind me," Toby said. Mickey really wanted to know what happened but she didn't want to upset Toby.
"Now I wish I was going," Mickey said
"Can't you just ask your mom not to come?" JT asked Toby
"Sure, if I want to start a nuclear custody war," Toby said,
Maybe they won't start screaming this time." JT said
"Yeah. Maybe Mr. Armstrong won't tell your parents about the 'D' on your last math test." Toby said to JT
"How much time do we have left?" JT asked now, nervous about parents' night.
"28 hours, 13 minutes, and 17 seconds. 28 hours, 13 minutes, and 16 seconds. 28 hours, 13 minutes, and 15 seconds." Toby started counting down again.
"Sometimes, I really wonder why I hang out with you guys" Mickey muttered as they entered the school building.

"The way it works now is perfect. Every other weekend with my mom, the rest of the time with my dad. And as long as they don't have to talk to each other, everything's fine." Toby said, the three of them back on the topic of parents' day
"Sorry, man. I didn't know it was that serious." JT said
"Yeah, well, it is that serious," Toby said,
"Then just try to get out of it," Mickey said
"Hey, we could contaminate the water foundations with E Coli, that way they'd have to shut down the school, right?" JT suggested.
