FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER

"mm, what's in that, babe?" nini asks e.j as he pulls a medium sized thermos out of their bag, nonchalantly pouring some into both of their glasses.

"whatever ashlyn had leftover from sunday," he tells her, "you guys want any?"

"e.j, what the fuck?!" gina snaps.

"what? you guys are boring, i'm just trying to have a fun friday night with my girl," he says, pouring the rest into nini's root beer (without asking, obviously).

i roll my eyes, "dude, knock it off. here, nini, i'll get you another-"

"i don't remember her asking for another drink, dude," e.j says.

"guys, it's fine, really," she smiles (which i'm almost sure is fake).

"are you sure?" i ask.

"yeah, she's sure," e.j scoffs, shooting me a glare as he tightens his arm around nini. gina and i exchange looks, neither of us knowing what the other is trying to tell them.

now would have been a good time for a signal, just saying.

LATER

thirty minutes later (although it felt like thirty hours), nini and e.j are completely trashed.

"here, take him home, i'll take nini," i tell gina, shutting the car door with e.j inside (who could barely stand up at this point, we had to drag him out to his car).

"why do i have to take him?!"

"because i don't know where the fuck he lives!"

"fine, but so help me god bowen, if you lay even one of your sweaty hands on nini-which i will know if you do-you and john f. kennedy are gonna have a lot more in common besides-"

"okay, okay! i would never, ever do that, just so you know. i'm not e.j."

"still, you're the same breed as him. you can't trust any male these days," she jokes, rolling her eyes and taking the keys. i nod at her before walking nini over to my car. she's leaning almost all of her weight on me, her fingers playing with my sweater while i open the car door.

"wheeree are we goingg?" nini giggles as i set her down in the seat, leaning over her to buckle her up.

"we're getting you home, neeners," i say, which makes her unexpectedly grab my arm.

"no!"

"no what?" i laugh.

"i don't wanna," she whines, which makes me burst out laughing even harder. i carefully slither my arm out from her grip and shut the door, running over the the drivers side.

"why don't you wanna go home, ni?" i ask her as she grabs my arm again, hugging it close and resting her head down on my forearm on top of the console.
