the weeks after nini had broken up with e.j had gone by quickly. gina and i broke up a few days after, because we got what we wanted (well, almost). gina didn't seem too interested in the end goal anymore, anyway-she iced me out after the dance, which kind of hurt a little. i thought we were sort of becoming friends, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
it's now mid-april, meaning that it's also my birthday this weekend. i didn't want a big party or anything, i really just wanted to be with nini-so, we decided to have a picnic day (luckily, it's saturday, so we have the entire day together).
and no, i didn't lie to big red the other day. i still haven't told nini about how i feel yet, there just hasn't been a good time. i'm still trying to figure out how to do it, and what i should even say, and it takes time. cut me some slack, it took me twelve years to even figure out i'm in love with her in the first place, now i have to actually tell her.
but hey-i've got all the time in the world.
i can't help but smile to myself in the drivers seat of my car parked in front of nini's house when i see her excitedly rush out the front door, picnic basket and a blanket in hand. she's wearing a red floral romper, her loosely curled hair tied back into a low side ponytail with a red scrunchie.
"hey birthday boy," nini smiles back at me when she opens the door, taking a seat in the passenger's and gently throwing the white picnic blanket in the backseat. she sets her pink backpack down by her feet and holds the picnic basket as she sits.
