Sophie Pov 

Today was the last day of ninth grade. There was going to be a farewell for seniors we had a half-day and as freshmen, we were not invited. 

I picked my clothes out for the day, showered, got dressed, and combed my hair. I got downstairs picking my bag up, he was talking to someone.

"Yeah, we would be there by next week." He said to that person.

 "Where are we going?". I asked getting down. 

"Cruise," he said. 

"What for how long?" I shouted in excitement. 

"1 whole month". He said

"Why is this one that long?" I asked. 

"It's a medical conference that is held once in 10 years and if you get in, it's amazing, an opportunity to learn from the best while having fun on that cruise." He said with a light on his face. By that, I knew that this was important to him. 

"Alright then let's go," I said. 

"I will be picking you up from school". He said. 

"Alright, but why is it so long others are like 1 day or 1 week?" I asked. 

"Well, 'cause it's held once in 10 years." He said. 

"When are we leaving?" I asked. 

"5 days from today." He said. 

"Alright". I said. 

"I know, you have a lot of questions, but we need to go as you need to get to school and I need to get myself to work." He said. 

"Alright," I said.  I didn't have breakfast cause it was a half-day and none of us were hungry. We both grabbed our things and got in the car. The ride to school was asking questions and him answering them. When we reached I got out of the car. 

"Have a good day, Sophie." He said. 

"You too".  I said and then he drove away. Then I got joined Zoey and Nate they both looked kinda sad which worried me. 

"What happened?" I asked. 

"We need to talk Sophie it's serious,"  Nate said.

"Alright. I said as my anxiety rose. We got to the field as not many people were there in the morning.

"We can't be together anymore". He said all of a sudden his face expressionless. 

"Why?" I said not wanting to cry but the tears made their way to my face. 

"Don't cry". He said. 

"Why? I thought we were good together." I asked again. 

"We are moving to London". He said. 

"But that's far away from New York," I said. 

"Yeah, I know thats why, while I am away, I dont want you to miss me, I want you to move on." He said wiping my tears off but I pushed his hand away and ran away.  The rest of the day was not much passed away quickly. Zoey was going to a hill station with her family. At the end of the day, we said our goodbyes and see you in sophomore year. Then I ran into Nathan. 

"I am sorry I ran off like that, it was just pure shock to me. I said. 

"I get that, goodbye I'll miss you." He said. 

"Goodbye, I'll miss you too Nathan," I said and he ran away waving to me. I teared up again not only we were in a relationship, but we were really good friends. I lost both of them in a single day. 

"Good job Sophie". I thought to myself. 

 Dad was waiting outside in his car.

 "So, how was the last day?" He asked.

"Rough, Nate is going to London, forever so he ended things. I lost a friend and boyfriend in one day."I said

 "I am so sorry, are you okay?" He asked.

 "I am not, I just need some time alone then I will be," I said. 

"I am here okay? If you need to talk or for anything I know it's hard." He said. 

"Thanks, dad it means a lot," I said. 

"Anytime Soph." He said.  

"Why are you driving to Duke's office?" I asked. 

"I am so sorry this has to be today but we need to get some shots and a checkup before we get on that ship." He said. 

"Okay," I said scared of what happened last time.

He drove to his house and we went upstairs right where Duke's office was. We went inside. 

 Duke was sitting right there. 

"Sophie, come on your turn first," Duke said. I hopped on the table still scared. 

"I am just going to listen to your heart and lungs, this might be a bit cold." He said putting the stethoscope bell on my chest. 

"Sounds good." He said. 

I nodded, relieved to be over with one part of the checkup. 

"Just going to check your ears now. Turn your head for me." He said grabbing another device. I did as he said. I winced as he put it in my ear. 

"Does it hurt?" He asked. 

"Just kinda uncomfortable," I said. 

"I am done with it." He said and kept the device down on the desk.

"Thanks," I said.

"throat now, open up." He said. I opened my mouth and he shined a tight in my light and put a popsicle stick kinda thing on my tongue.

"Say ahh." He said. I did that. 

"Healthy." He said. 

"This is going to be a lot of pressure, but it has to be done." He said putting a cuff around my arm and there was instant pressure. Tears welled up in my eyes. 

"Shh, it's done." He said. 

"Is it over?" I asked. 

"Shots and stomach exam left so lay down." He said. I laid down just wanting to get this over with. 

He lifted my shirt up just a bit nd started pressing down on various areas. 

"Pain?" He asked. 

"Nope." I said. 

"Sit up for the shots you only need 2, one in each arm. He said. I sat up. He did the shots me wincing every time he did it. I didn't want a repeat of last time so I just tried to stay calm throughout it.

Dad and Duke did the same to each other. Both of them just obeying the other and staying calm through it. 

After that, Dad and I went home. I went straight to my room and just thought about Nathan and me the fun we had and tears started flowing down and now I was fully crying. 

Dad came in. 

"I heard you crying. Do you need me?" He asked. 

"Yes, I do." I said and he sat on the bed. He just held me while I was crying not speaking anything other than it's going to be alright.

"I think I am done now." I said. 

"Alright, if you need me here, just in my room." He said and went outside knowing I just needed some time alone. I just fell asleep exhausted from all the crying.
