Chapter Eight.
As Brandy had walked down the corridors in silence, she really couldn't have stopped thinking about her mother and brother at the hospital.
Are they OK?
27 days...
Why do they have exactly 27 days or less left to live though?
Why not 30?
31?
That's a month.
Will they even live to see Christmas?
Christmas was 16 days away.
Brandy was panicking internally, but she had put on a brave face.
Sometimes she would have listened to music depending on how she was feeling... like right now actually.
She was listening to Love Don't Cost A Thing by Jennifer Lopez.
Think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
Think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thingThink I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thingShe loved her mother and brother dearly... without them having to pay anything for it. That was why she was listening to this song in the first place.
It was also her mother's favourite song, and Brandy could have seen why, it was a lovely song to be honest. One of JLo's best ones out there.
She wanted to cry on the inside though- damn... what golden hoops and a big bright smile could have hidden sometimes.
If she had broken down, most especially in public, then people would have thought that she was attention seeking, or they would have made fun of her.
Especially how she was smart.
She had met Esther and Vishavané on the way, who would have initially gone inside with her but they didn't as Mrs Solis had only called Brandy and not them instead.
Or them along with her.
For some reason, the waiting room to the headteacher's office was actually pretty far away from the head teacher's office.
It was most likely because Mrs Solis had really liked her privacy though.
"Hey girl, what happened out there?" Esther Marie wanted to know when she had seen Brandy. "I know you didn't get into trouble because you rarely do, but you seem pretty tensed up."
Esther Marie was saying that because when her and Vishavané had seen Brandy walk past them, they had said to hi to her.
Only for her to ignore them completely... yet unintentionally because she was just honestly so concerned about her mother and brother.
Nothing else was really on her mind at the moment.
All that matters is
That you treat me right
Give me all the things I need
That money can't buy yeahBrandy had also been thinking about her boyfriend of one week Jahking, who had once again been too busy to talk to her. His replies were always late.
He had way too much coursework to do at the moment.
She wanted him to treat her right.
Not abandon his coursework for her per say... Brandy didn't know anymore. She was just tired of everything.
"Brandy?"
"She got wireless earphones in, chica," Vishavané pointed out, casually removing them from her ears without Brandy's consent.
When Brandy had realised that, she had kind of yelled at them, with both Esther Marie and Vishavané telling her to calm down.
Brandy took a deep breath.
Then she apologised.
"I'm so sorry..." she hyperventilated uncontrollably. "I gotta go. I don't have any time right now to be honest. I would love to stay and chat, but I can't. Most especially now. Sorry."
Esther wanted to know what was going on with her, and even though Brandy didn't want to say anything to her as she had genuinely felt as though she wouldn't really have understood?
She had told her and Vishavané anyway.
Her mother and brother were currently at the hospital because they had gotten involved in a car crash.
They were still alive but they only had 27 days left to live.
"Why 27?"
"I don't know, Esther," Brandy cried, tears starting to fill her eyes. "That's what I want to find out now, by going to the hospital."
They had both hugged her concurrently when they had seen her crying, with both Esther and Vishavané telling her that things were all going to be OK, but Brandy didn't want to dwell on it.
Not that she was thinking of the worst case scenario or she was thinking negatively- but she didn't want to say that they would have ended up alive if they didn't.
If that had made sense anyway.
"Tell you what- we have a free lesson right now. We'll follow you to the hospital."
"We can't..." Vishavané added. "Not right now anyway. But we can always do so later."
Esther Marie wanted to know why Vishavané and her couldn't have just followed Brandy now, although Vishavané just stared at her.
For a long long time.
Then Esther had remembered the answer.
They couldn't have told Brandy though.
It was kind of embarrassing.
"Oh yeah-- we can't go now but we'll come later.. for sure!" Esther Marie had remembered.
"OK, but if you guys are lying to me, or if you don't show up at the end then I'll become very annoyed at you and I mean it."
The girls had nodded at that, although now Brandy really wanted to know why they couldn't have gone with her.
But she didn't ask them as she knew that they would have lied to her or stalled her- and she didn't want that.
She sighed, before going off to her car in order to drive to the hospital before it was too late.
Little did she know that Kodaviah had still been watching her the whole time, but he was far away from the Triple Ks right now.
They had lectures at the moment, he didn't.
Damn, I really hope she's OK.
I gotta follow her to this hospital.
Jahking's too busy for her- and goodness knows why Esther Marie and Vishavané don't wanna go.
Kind of rude, if you ask me.
He had followed her silently.
But he had taken the bus there so as not to seem that he had been stalking her or anything.
If no one was going to be there for Brandy then Kodaviah would have been.
You'll find out late why Vishavané and Esther Marie couldn't have made it to the hospital, don't worry xx
