Julio Macias (picture above) as Santarico (Kodaviah's cousin). He's not in this chapter though, he's in the next one instead. Enjoy! :)
"Whoa. Your mother and brother only have twenty seven days or less to live?"
"Yes," Brandy had lamented, as the two of them were outside together, trying to think of what to do now. "I'm so scared for them, man. I don't know what to do."
They both had free lessons, and right now they were on top of a bridge, just admiring the crystal river right in front of them.
They were also trying to make the most of it before it was too late for them to do so.
Brandy had just explained to Kodaviah what had happened between her mother and brother. She was completely traumatised at the news.
Kodaviah wanted to know why they had precisely 27 days or less left to live though. As in, why not 30 or 31... maybe even 25 but God forbid.
27 seemed too precise.
But that was what the machine had said.
Brandy didn't know what to do so she had relied on Kodaviah to give her answers and support. Not that she had done that normally.
But it was kind of normal to wish for that when the people she had thought that she could trusted had completely let her down.
Plus she had a boyfriend anyway, quote unquote. And when she had had a bad day, Brandy would have usually relied on Jahking to make her feel better from time to time.
Which had generally happened, that was until he had become way too busy to even have time for her. His coursework came first yeah.
And Brandy had absolutely nothing against that, don't get her wrong.
But reminding her that he was still alive and he was still there for her whenever she needed him wouldn't have hurt, would it?
Brandy was in tears now because she was really worried that both of them were going to die, and even if they weren't, it wasn't the easiest thing for Brandy to be positive at the moment.
Kodaviah had realised this and he wanted to put an arm around her but he couldn't because she had had a boyfriend, so therefore he had just told her they everything was going to be OK instead.
Although he couldn't have promised that, he had promised however that he would have tried to help her out as much as he could have done so.
Plus he wasn't going to tell her that he could have guaranteed that they weren't going to end up dead at the end.
Where was the fun in that?
He wanted to lighten her spirits, not the other way around. Which was accomplished anyway by asking her what she was doing tonight.
She had stared at him blankly.
"Why?..."
"Your so called best friends ditched you and lied to you about coming here, your so called boyfriend is way too busy for you once again... come on sis, you need someone at least. You can't be an island on your own either. It's not good for your mental health."
He wasn't wrong.
Brandy sighed.
"If it answers your question, Esther and Vishavané want me to go to J Star Valentine and Shawntae's concert later on tonight."
J Star Valentine (Tupac) was a very famous fictional rapper, whose real name was Jadamiel, hence the J. Valentine was his surname though.
And Shawntae (Da Brat) was his girlfriend. Everyone had literally been talking non stop about this concert since they had found out about it.
Kodaviah didn't say anything as he had realised something wrong with that entire statement.
"Esther and Vishavané want you to go there, but do you want to go there?"
"I guess."
"Brandy."
Kodaviah wouldn't have stopped looking at her.
She had done the same thing, looking away from him at the end and sighed.
At the crystal clear river.
Reluctantly, she had then stared at him back, where Kodaviah had asked her once again if she wanted to go to the concert herself.
"You can't keep on relying on people, most especially to make your own decisions for you. It's not healthy, what if you lose them?"
"The only reason they want me to go to this concert in the first place is because they think I study too much and I need a break. Plus tomorrow is the weekend so I guess we could always make up for lost work during that time."
They actually had a point.
Brandy had worked way too hard, she did need a break, with Kodaviah kindly pointing all of this out to her.
She didn't actually mind going to the concert now, most especially when Kodaviah had offered her to come with him.
But there was only one problem, she didn't have a ticket. It had to be booked beforehand, which she didn't even do in the first place.
Because she didn't want to go.
She was initially supposed to come to the concert with Esther and Vishavané, assuming she had gone there, although no way was she doing that after they had lowkey dropped her like a fly.
"I know someone who can give you a ticket last minute. I don't need one, as I've already booked one with the rest of Triple Ks too, but a brother can help you out."
She nodded.
And after that, they were going to go to a fancy restaurant as well.
Tomorrow was Jahking's birthday so Brandy and him wanted to spend some time together at his favourite restaurant.
Which they wanted to go to today instead of tomorrow as it was more busy during the weekends. They didn't want to risk anything.
Kodaviah had driven her to the place where she could have gotten a ticket for free without having to book anything.
It would have originally taken them about twenty or so minutes to get there from the hospital, however because Kodaviah hadn't been there in a long time?
He had kind of gotten lost along the way, but thank God for a satnav, eh?
Plus Brandy helped him.
"You sure this is a good idea?"
"It's a great idea, trust me."
She had trusted him, although a part of her didn't at the same time.
