Whilst Brandy was making her way over to Vishavané's room...
Esther Marie in the meantime was already there, waiting for Vishavané to come back. She was moreover thinking about how the heck she was going to make it up to Brandy as well.
Because truth be told, this was one of the worst things she had ever done to her.
What she didn't realise right now was that Brandy was already making her way to Vishavané's room, after realising that Esther Marie didn't answer her door.
When Esther Marie had heard a knock on Vish's door, she had freaked out.
Nah, it can't be Vish.
Because why would she knock to enter her own room?
That doesn't really make sense...
I don't really talk to Kodaviah that much, I don't want anything from him and vice versa so it can't be him either.
So it had to be..
Brandy.
She had really used the process of elimination just to figure all of that out?
Wow.
Esther Marie had told her to come in, which was then when Brandy had listened to her, Esther Marie being too afraid to start the conversation in the meantime.
Not that this had happened much because Brandy had started the conversation anyway.
This had to be one of the most uncomfortable conversations that both of them had ever had to experience before.
"We need to have a serious discussion."
"My thoughts exactly," Esther Marie had deadpanned, then she had sighed.
They were both sitting down on Vishavané's bed at the moment, who still hadn't yet arrived back from going shopping.
The shops were quite far away from here, with the queue most likely being as long as it usually was so no real surprise there much once someone had thought about it.
"Brandy, I didn't mean any harm and you know that."
"It's just that you and Vishavané promised me that you two would be there and you didn't. How do you think that makes me feel? It made me feel like I couldn't trust you anymore."
Esther Marie didn't say anything to that... mainly because she was thinking of how to reply.
She actually wanted to ask her friend what had completely changed her mind about coming to talk to her, though that question had an obvious answer to that.
Kodaviah.
Who else?
Kodaviah must have had some serious talk with Brandy if he had completely changed Brandy's mind about talking to Esther Marie, that was for sure.
Esther had really wondered what the two of them had actually said to each other.
"Kodaviah said that I should try and hear things from your perspective though, as to why you and Vishavané ditched me. So shoot. Why didn't you guys come?"
"It's embarrassing."
It kind of was as well.
It had made Esther and Vish seem like the weaker people.
Esther Marie didn't want to tell Brandy anything, and she wanted this conversation to end altogether to be honest.
Fortunately, Brandy had known Esther long enough to be able to detect when something was wrong.
"Esther, you can tell me anything."
She took a deep breath and she had looked at her, thinking of what to say.
"Vishavané's failing Maths," she explained. "And we would have told you this but we were too embarrassed to do so because you're way smarter than us. You would have thought that we were unintelligent people or something, and we didn't want that for ourselves."
So that was why they had ditched her?
Wow.
That was a good excuse.
All this time, Brandy had thought that they had left her for J Star Valentine, or something that was kind of frivolous like that.
She was clearly mistaken.
"Esther!" Brandy had said to her after she had told her everything. Poor Esther in the meantime had looked seriously dejected.
Now she really wanted this conversation to end, it was sort of doing her head in.
"Esther, you and Vish aren't less intelligent than me, don't say that."
"But you know it's true, and sometimes you make fun of us for not doing well in a test when you did, despite the fact that none of us take the same course. I know you don't do this on purpose though, but still."
Brandy had studied science.
Esther English.
Vishavané Maths.
"Esther, I wouldn't have known that, because neither you nor Vish had told me that," Brandy had reminded her. "And of course I don't mean any harm. I'm sorry if I ever made you and/or Vishavané feel as though you were less intelligent than me. Truth be told, being smart isn't all that great anyway."
Esther Marie was about to cry however she didn't, because she had luckily managed to compose her tears.
She had just looked up at Brandy instead, her tears making a blur of her sympathetic face.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I mean, and I told Kodaviah this- if you fail a test, everybody finds out. There's so much pressure on you to do well. I wish I was just a normal kid."
Esther Marie had smiled at that, before then hugging Brandy, goodness knew why the heck she had ever decided to underestimate her friends.
They were all friends now, with Brandy wanting to know where Vishavané was because despite the fact that they were all in her room?
The girl wasn't actually there right now.
Esther Marie had given Brandy the note saying that the girl had gone shopping, and now she was really happy for someone like Kodaviah being in her life.
"What could possibly be more important than my mother and brother not having that much time left to live?"
Twenty seven days was a long time though, was it not?
OK, so it was less than a month- although it was more than three weeks.
Almost four even.
"I don't know what could possibly be more important than that, if you want the truth but you should still try and listen to them regardless. That's what I'd want to do, and I'm pretty sure you'd want the same thing for yourself as well."
Thank God for him.
Kodaviah couldn't have been any more useful than he already was.
