-Connor's POV-

I took Evan's hand and as I shook it, I felt heat flood my face. I tried to introduce myself but my voice was dry and raspy. "Here," he handed me a water bottle (most likely from the vending machine).

I drank some when I noticed his cast. "No signatures?" I asked in a small voice. "Hm? O-oh um no there's one." He said looking down as he turning his cast so I could see the small signature. It was my sister's name signed in cursive.

I felt the familiar stirring, dark, and angry feeling of jealousy. I immediately pushed the feeling away and brushed it off as nothing. I just met the guy, and even if I was jealous it could just mean I wished I was his friend.

Not everything has to be about romance. I'm looking at you Hollywood. Anyway I sat up and sat with my legs crossed. "I'll sign it?" I nervously. He looked up at me. "O-oh no you don't have to."

"Why? Don't want the school freak's name on your cast?" I asked chuckling and his face immediately went red.

"N-n-no! I didn't mean it like that! I swear-"

"I'm just messing with you Hansen."

"O-oh."

"Do you have a sharpie?"

He gave a nervous nod and pulled out a sharpie from his backpack by his feet. I took it and yanked it towards me, forgetting his ya know, arm was broken. Which made him squeak a small, "ow..."

"S-sorry," I replied glancing up at him. I signed my name, a little bit bigger than Zoe's, almost taking up the whole cast. "O-oh thanks." "Yep, got any friends?" I asked putting the sharpie on the desk next to me. "Um...Zoe? I'm not sure if she considers me a friend so... I have a family friend, not exactly a real friend."

He trailed off. "Well we can both pretend to have friends." I said gesturing at his cast. He smiled. "U-unless you wanna be actual friends, wedonthavetoitsokayitwasastupidquestionimsosorrygodivebeentalkingfortoolong!!" He quickly rambled while slowly sinking into his hoodie. It was kinda cute.

"You apologize a lot." "I-I know I'm sorr-" he cut himself off and just looked at the floor, his face going red in embarrassment. "Well for what it's worth, I wouldn't mind being friends with you." I said smiling.

The silence was broken when the door was kicked open by non other than Jared fucking Kleinman. Both Evan and I jumped and he walked inside.

"Evy I got your mom she's gonna be here in- oh hi Murphy." He said as his face went to lit up and happy to annoyed. "I was just saying your mom's gonna be here in a few, the elevator is out of order some idiot was jumping in it and they're stuck now."

Jared glanced over and I swear I heard his heart shatter and break into a million pieces. I followed his gaze and he was staring at me...still holding Evan's casted hand. He immediately snatched it away and his face went red again.

"So what are you homos doing?" Jared asked with a smirk. "I signed his cast because unlike you I'm a good friend." I said which set him off on a rant about how much of a good family friend he is.

"Excuse me?! Oh you think you're SOO amazing and a great friend because you can sign a stupid cast?!" He said as he began to charge at me and I thought he was straight up going to pull the plug on my ass but he just grabbed Evan's arm and took the marker from the table.

He aggressively signed his name on the cast and once he was done, dropped the pen on the floor like a mic drop. "BOOM! And I'd like to point out I signed my name with a smiley face. So you're not so special, Murphy!!"

Evan was just staring at his cast in amazement with a small smile. It got quiet so I struck up a conversation. "Look...you might think I'm, weird, to say the least. I'm the kid that threw a printer at my teacher when I was in 2nd grade for Christ's sake-"

"That was you?!"

-Jared's POV-

Evan seemed to have his hands full so I left him alone. They were both laughing and seemed to click together like puzzle pieces. They looked so perfect together...and Evan looked so happy. Unlike when he was with me, he was always nervous...or looked uncomfortable.

I looked at the floor in the hallway, feeling tears push on the back of my eyes. I squeezed my eyes as tight as I could praying I didn't just break down in the middle of a hospital hallway.

I was brought back to reality when I heard a few pairs of running feet behind me. It was the Murphys and Heidi. Zoe stopped next to me and from the doorway we could see them giggling and going on and on about a topic I actually didn't know anything about.

Mrs. Murphy took a step closer to the room with an angry expression. I put my arm out to stop her. "Wait...for just a few minutes..." I said quietly. I glanced back at Evan. My heart once again broke and shattered on the floor.

"Let him have this." A few minutes went by before Heidi had to take care of Connor and do all that coma shit I didn't really pay attention.

Zoe was crying and hugging Connor and so was Cynthia, Larry was kinda just...off to the side. He looked tired. I mean your son just woke up from a coma the least you do is just make a face that looks like all the dads at Home Depot when they find out there's a big ass sale.

After a bit, Evan started to show Connor the Connor project while the Murphys talked to Heidi. "This entire thing was created by..." Evan said typing something onto the computer.

"Alana Beck!" he said turning the computer around to show Connor. It caught me off guard, the whole point of his was for Evan to take credit...he wanted fame...right?

"You left behind quite a legacy, Murphy." I added from the doorway. "Wow, I didn't realize I meant that much to- Sixteen thousand two-hundred and thirty-nine people?! Jesus!" Connor said looking shocked.

Evan went on and on about how amazing Alana was and how it was her original idea. Connor and Evan started to talk again and I felt Zoe behind me. She gently grabbed my hand. "You gonna be okay?" She quietly asked in my ear.

I looked back at her, then turned around and looked back at Evan. He was really happy, more happy than I had ever seen him. Yeah my heart would most likely be broken forever but as long as he's happy then I'm fine.

I smiled. "Yeah...I think so."
