Perhaps she was right
There may indeed be a man inside me peering out at my every action
And perhaps I am a puppet performing for this man's approval
But is that so bad?
Is it so bad to want a man's love in a man's world
I am tired of fighting against them for a seat at the table
For a voice to be heard amongst the screaming masses
I am tired of the threats and the violence and the horrible patriarchy
But beyond that I no longer want to struggle
Is it so bad to want a man's love?
To have arms wrap around you as you smile softly at a bouquet of flowers
To feel validated and beautiful and secure in a simple compliment
To enjoy the warmth of a body beside you as you sleep
I cannot give myself the love I deserve
The love I desire
I will never be able to love myself in a man's world
There will forever be that little man inside me, peering out and judging me
So let him judge me at my relative best then
Let him judge me as I feel loved
I am tired and I simply want love
I am a woman in a man's world and thus I wish for a man's love
