Oh-Aew: This is tiring...
Teh: Oh, how many times I said this? That-
Oh-Aew: That it is important that I practice writing as much as I can so those which I can't remember will stick to my head. Infinite times.
Teh: Yes and writing is really the fastest way you memorize things, trust me. You'll get it eventually. Even if you don't you will at least get the gist because you put in the effort to learn it.
Oh-Aew: But I'm writing the same words for pages already.
Teh: Umm, you are only practicing writing my name and your name.
Oh-Aew: I know! Why is it your name has so many strokes?
Teh: You have to ask my ma and pa. You want to write my brother's name? As much strokes.
Oh-Aew: No...I am bored.
Teh: You are just bored. When you write until you get calluses on your thumb and finger then you get to complaint. Like me, here, see how hard the skin?
Teh shows Oh-Aew his palm and points to the callus on his middle finger and middle of the thumb. Oh-Aew grabs the hand with both his hands and feels the calluses gently. Teh suddenly feels his heart skip a beat.
Oh-Aew: Wow. Does it hurt if I press it?
Teh: Nah, the skin's harden. Sore but nah, doesn't hurt since I am used to it.
Oh-Aew massages Teh's hand. Teh's heart skips another beat.
Oh-Aew: I will bring some hand lotion I use tomorrow. Might help you to sooth the sore.
Teh suddenly realizes how soft Oh-Aew's hands are. Words get stuck in his throat when Oh-Aew looks up and smiles.
Oh-Aew: Teh? You ok?
No.
Teh: Oh course! Now you go back to writing practice. We'll do new words this time. Let's write, coconut lotion.
Oh-Aew: Ok, show me.
Oh-Aew edges nearer to Teh. The coconut scent of Oh-Aew's shampoo's infiltrate Teh's nose.
Teh shivers.
Teh: Yeah. Um, here.
Oh-Aew: Hey, this is so complicated!
Teh: Copy this two page.
Oh-Aew: No!
Teh: And then we can eat Hokkien mee by ma AND do an hour of chinese drama marathon.
Oh-Aew: Ok.
Teh sighs.
Since when writing exercise time become a heart throbbing moment?
Teh, focus.
No, all Teh could is stare as Oh-Aew diligently practice writing coconut lotion in mandarin.
