Writing Exercise Again

Oh-Aew: Teh, what are you doing? 

Teh: Wow, you are here early. Why? Can't wait to study with me? 

Oh-Aew: No, drop by early so ma can cook me Hokkien mee. Who studies willingly anyway?

Teh: My, excuse me for studying willingly. Had your noodles already? Can we start? 

Oh-Aew: No, ma asked me to wait for 10 minutes. She is serving a table of customers with gor Hoon. So, what are you doing?

Teh: Practicing my writing. 

Oh-Aew: Wow, you wrote 2 pages of the same word. Isn't that boring? 

Teh: Nope. It's one of my favorite character to practice. Do you recognize it?

Oh-Aew: Ummm.....nope. 

Teh: Never mind. Take out your handwriting workbook and show me what you wrote. Two characters, a page each. What did you right? 

Oh-Aew: This. 

Teh: You chose the simplest words, really? I and you? 

Oh-Aew: Well, you said any characters will do and I happen to have problem writing the "I" and "You" character. 

Teh: Ok, ok, I did say that. Next time, I am dictating the words so you can't do the bare minimum. You know what, practice writing this now. 

Oh-Aew: This character you are writing? 

Teh: Yes! Try again, guess this word? 

Oh-Aew: Umm....it has something to do with feelings?

Teh: Correct, go on. 

Oh-Aew: Umm....I....don't know. 

Teh: LOVE. This is the character for love. Oh, remember? 

Oh-Aew: Right! This is the love character! 

Teh: Finally. Anyway, add this character in the writing practice with your other words. I'll go get our food. Wait. 

Oh-Aew: Wait Teh, in what order? 

Teh: Write in any order you want. You want ice-coffee gor make? 

Oh-Aew: No, coconut juice please. 

Teh: Ok. 

Teh leaves the study area to collect their food. Oh-Aew watches Teh leave for the front of the house before taking a look at Teh's writing practice book. Teh's handwriting is really neat. 

Love. 

Oh-Aew smiles to himself as he starts his writing practice. 

Teh: Wow, you combined the words.

Oh-Aew smiles and shows off his handiwork proudly to Teh who comes back with the food and takes his seat beside Oh-Aew. Does Teh knows he smells of coffee? 

Oh-Aew: Yup, I combined the words. Smart eh? 

Teh: I love you. 

Oh-Aew: Huh? 

Teh: I love you na. not you I love. The word sequence is wrong. The love character should be in the middle, wo ai ni (I love you), not ni wo ai, get? 

Oh-Aew blushes as he erases his mistake and rewrite in the correct sequence. 

For a moment there, Oh-Aew thought Teh was suddenly confessing to him. 

Maybe, one day.

Yukichi's Note: Practicing writing characters again and again like Teh was literally how I learned two languages which needed characters. It's fun for me because one, I get to really absorb the words and two, I get to waste up all my accumulated stationery and then BURN those notes.
