Forever

Creatures of the Night

The night that changed our lives forever was like a scene out of one of my favorite young adult fiction novels. Jim and I had been dating since I was a freshman in high school, and since I just landed a job at the high school he works at, we decided to move into a house in the school's territory together. We had just moved in the day prior and just finally fell asleep next to each other for the first time.

Everything was perfect, that is until I woke up to his scream. What had seemed like an amazing night had been erased in a matter of minutes.

As I scanned the room to find what was wrong, I saw him; a dark, shadow crouched over my limp boyfriend's body, licking his lips to clean them of warm blood.

"JIM!?!? Fix him you, you MONSTER!"

At the last word the creature looked up at me, his eyes changing during his stare. In seconds they went from hungry to apologizing, he started to speak.

"I, I'm sorry. I know you can't tell who I am, but you know me, you invited me in last week. I'm your new neighbor, Damon Salvatore. I can save his life, but he'll be different, he'll be like me, a vampire, it's obviously not a secret anymore."

"A, a vampire?" I asked quietly, holding eye contact with him.

"Yes, a vampire, you don't have to watch if you don't want to, it won't be painful, but its very bloody work." He answered with a sigh.

"Okay, I'm not looking, do what you have to do." I said as I urged myself to wake up from this nightmare.

I was a bit of a vampire nerd in my college years and had read every series written during the world's vampire phase. However, the fact that it was happening right here, right now, to my boyfriend, I couldn't believe it.

I heard another scream, a snap, and then silence. I kept my eyes closed until I heard his voice.

"Kate? Are you awake? I feel different, invincible almost. I had this dream, it seemed like something out of that show you like. There was this guy, and he bit me At first it hurt but then it felt good and then I like passed out."

Damon emerged from the corner where he was hiding.

"James, you are officially a Salvatore, of the Salvatore Clan." He said with a smirk..

"I'm a part of a gang now? What is going on?" His eyes were so wide and he seemed so scared.

"Love, you are a vampire now. Damon, our new neighbor, he almost killed you, it was the only way to save you." I said quietly answering all the questions going through his head.

"Babe, I can't be a vampire, that will mean that I'll live forever, which just can't happen, not with out you anyways." He said, realizing that I would have to become like him.

"You want me to be like you? If it'll mean we are together forever then okay, but what if we don't work out? What if we breakup? What happens then?" I was always very insecure when it came to our relationship.

"Babe, stop worrying, we are going to be together forever." He promised and wrapped his arms around me, pressing my face into his chest.

Seconds later Damon walked him through how to change me, and like that I was a vampire. Forever.
