It was only a few days later when Epin found out that Odin and Frigga were hosting a banquet for a large sum of Asgardians at the palace. Loki knew Epin would want to try and avoid going at all cost but he knew that Frigga would require them to attend. Frigga had requested for Epin to meet her in the library for a chat before the banquet and to say that Epin was nervous was an understatement.
"Darling, you will be fine. She just wants to get to know you." Loki states reassuringly as he walks up behind Epin and grabs her waist, pulling her back into him. She immediately relaxes from his touch and forces herself to take a deep breath.
"Okay, I believe you." Epin replies in a small whisper as she stares at the wall in front of her and focuses on Loki's hands on her sides and her back that is pressed into his chest.
"I love hearing you say that, darling." Loki smiles at her words. Epin is the only one who has ever said them to him. Epin giggles to herself at Loki as she moves away from him and he releases the hold he has on her.
"I should probably go. I will see you later?" Epin asks with hope in her eyes and it almost makes Loki melt.
"Of course E, if Frigga keeps you late then I will see you at the banquet my darling." Loki says, trying to keep his appearance calm so he doesnt show how much Epin affects him. She gives Loki one last grin before teleporting to the library and being presented with the smell of tea and small treats. She walks further into the room and is greeted by Frigga who is smiling up at Epin.
"Epin, come sit. We have much to talk about." The queen says, her voice dripping with politeness.
"I am glad that Loki decided to bring you to Asgard, how has your stay been?" Frigga asks politely as Epin silently sits down across from her and stares at the tea set out for the two.
"Um, it's lovely. Your realm is quite beautiful." Epin stiffly responds.
"Oh dear, you don't have to be so formal with me. I am quite unlike my husband. I want to have a nice chat with you, no formalities please." Frigga explains and it allows Epin to release a breath and relax slightly. She laughs at how nervous she is.
"Sorry, I have never really been nervous before but when Loki said he wanted me to meet you I kind of, got anxious." Epin replies and Friggas eyes light up at this.
"Loki wanted us to meet you?"
"Um, yes. Well at least that's what he told me. He has never lied to me before so I assume it was really what he intended."
"My son has changed and I can feel that it is all because he met you. You know when he was younger, a child, he was always worried that he would be alone. He only ever opened up to me and I felt terrible that my son would ever feel that way. As he grew older, all he ever wanted was to be like Thor."
"He told me about this. He said when he found out he was a frost Giant he lost hope for ever having a real family." Epin whispered as she intently looked at Frigga.
"He told you that?" Frigga asks and Epin nods. "He has never told anyone about that secret of his. That is the point of what I was saying. He trusts you, believes you, cares for you. He wants to protect you and I can tell you want to protect him. He may not tell you, but even though we are the family that raised him, you are truly his family. I can see it in his eyes, the way he looks at you like he will never see you again. He always feared he would be alone but I can tell that since he has met you, that fear has gone away."
"As much as I want to believe that, I don't think he is that fond of me. I mean, I care for him deeply, much more than I care to admit and I fear that he will never feel the same." Epin responds with a sad smile.
