Chapter Fifteen
~Jessie~
I woke up to the God awful racket of males screaming at each other, and it made me want to roll back over and somehow go back to sleep. That didn’t work so instead I got up, changed into denim shorts and shirt before heading out to the lounge room to find out what all the fighting was about. I found Dante, Fringe and Guss sitting on the couch, starring at the TV screen with Xbox controllers in their hands. I groaned, which at least got Dante’s attention. He looked her at me, his eyes raking over my body just as I remembered my conclusion from that morning. He was my soul mate, the person God has chosen for me to spend the rest of my life with. I could feel my cheeks reddening at his gaze, so I rushed off into the kitchen before he could notice.
Once in the kitchen I went to the fridge, pulled out the bottle of orange juice and placed it on the table. I then went to the cupboard and pulled out the box of mint chocolate pop tarts. I took one packet out and put the pop tarts into the toaster. It was strange having to learn to prepare meals for myself, I was so used to coming down from my room and there being a buffet of food waiting on the table for me to pick and choose from. The pop tarts popped out of the toaster just as Dante spoke from behind me, “Jess.”
I jumped slightly before spinning around and facing him, my heart pounding in my chest. He was wearing boxers and a singlet and his hair was all messy like he’d only just gotten out of bed. I who had just gotten out of bed, looked more awake then he did. He took a step closer to me as he said, “Jess, I’m sorry about this morning, I didn’t mean to upset you.”
My mind wasn’t taking in what he was saying, now that it knew why I was so attracted to the vampire in front of me, it wanted to be just as close to him as my body does. Right now it was distracted by his lips, wondering what they would feel like against my own, if they were as soft as they looked. Before I knew what I was doing, I was moving towards him, but as I got within a step of touching him I realized something, I was too short to reach up and touch my lips to his. Meanwhile he was looking down at me with a mix of confusion, fear and need. Concentrating on the need I saw in his eyes, I grabbed his singlet, pulling his upper body down to my level. I then moved in for his lips, my eyes closing slowly, but just as I was about to make contact a voice from behind Dante spoke, “Oh wow, did I walk in on something?”
My eyes flew open and I looked around Dante to see Guss standing there with an empty glass in his hand. I wanted to growl at him, but instead I took a deep breath and took a step back from Dante, letting go of his singlet. My face was red, I could feel it, and there was no way of hiding it, or what I was just about to do. Dante was looking at Guss like he wanted to kill him, which amused me slightly, but also made my heart leap at the fact that he wanted to kiss me as well. Guss seeing that he was not wanted in the room he placed his empty glass on the kitchen table and backed out of the room. I watched him go, wanting to disappear myself, but instead of doing so I looked up at Dante, chewing my lower lip. Dante looked down at me, a slight frown between his brows and said, “Jess, I’m so confused. What do you want from me?”
I looked up at the vampire standing before me, and looking into his bright, golden eyes, made a decision. “Kiss me.”
He hesitated at first, but then he bent his head down to my level and covered my lips with his own. My eyes fluttered shut as a fire in my tummy alighted and my body shivered all over with pleasure. His lips were defiantly as soft as they looked, and I wanted more of them so wrapping my arms around his neck I pulled myself up into his arms and wrapped my legs around his waist so that I could deepen the kiss. His arms went around me as he leant us back against the kitchen counter, our lips still connected until he pulled away breathing hard. I growled in complaint only to have him chuckle at me and say, “I may be a vampire, but I still need to breathe.”
