Chapter Eight

We made our way up the stairs, and I opened my apartment door, not surprised to find it unlocked. As soon as I'd opened the door, a small figure was hurdling towards me, and wrapping small arms around my waist. The sound of small sobs, dam well broke my heart as I looked down into the tear stained face of my little sister. "Hey baby girl don't cry."

Reaching down, I wrapped my hands under her arms and pulled her up into a hug. "Hey it's okay Mish, I'm here."

She wrapped her arms around my neck and buried her face into my chest. "Where were you Dante, I woke up and you weren’t here? Then Luke said bad men were out so I couldn't go look for you. Don't do that again Dante, don't go without telling me."

Sighing I hugged her to me, "I'm sorry Mish, I promise, I'll tell you next time, okay." Mish nodded, and sniffled, her wet tears soaking through my black shirt, and wetting my skin.

I could hear Jessie behind me, so I stepped to the side so she could pass. I looked up and watched her walk towards Fringe, and the other guys. Fringe casually draping an arm over her shoulder, then he lent forward and said in a lowered tone, "Where'd you go, one second you were there beside me, the next there was no sign of you."

Jessie smiled, "I'm just that good, I'm there, and then I'm not".

Trying to hide a smirk, Fringe dramatically rolled his eyes before looking up at me and saying, "Silver told us to come up here, and he said something about you being in danger".

Just as I opened my mouth to speak, Jessie cut in with a snort, "He wasn't in danger I was there".

Again I opened my mouth to speak when a deep voice cut in from behind me, "Well then, in that case I'm in your debt young angel".

A warm smiling tugged at my lips as the sound of that oh so familiar voice soothed my coiled muscles and I said "Hey Luke."

When I turned a vampire with messy black hair and bright green eyes, came into sight, wearing ripped, faded jeans, a worn leather bikers jacket and an amused smile, Luke looked at me, then at Jessie as he said "Hello my fils de sang. You are well, yes?

Luke had taken me in as his Fils de sang, his blood son, even though he didn't turn me, for that I owed him greatly, otherwise I'd most likely be dead. "Yeah I'm good."

Chuckling he added on, "So you are behaving yourself then", he said while looking at Jessie.

Ducking my hands into my jean pockets, to restrain myself from flipping him off, I said "Yeah, Yeah I’m behaving."

Mishka began giggling from beside me, before bounding up into Luke’s, already waiting arms, "Now how has me baby girl been, have you been behaving yourself for your brother."

Mishka's head bopped up and down, all the while she had a huge grin across her face, "Yes, I've been really good haven't I Dante."

Luke smiled back lovingly at Mishka, "Well that's good to hear because I have a surprise for you latter."

Mishka squealed with glee before jumping from Luke’s arms and rushing towards Jessie, "Luke, Luke; this is my friend Jessie, she’s an angel."

Jessie smiled down at Mishka as she wrapped her little arms around Jessie’s waist, and I couldn't help but wish that it was my arms that were wrapped around her and not my little sisters. Sub concisely I sighed, and as I did so Luke looked at me with a raised brow. My eyes met his slightly, but after a while, his intense gaze became too much and I had to look away.

The second Luke looked away from me, the muscles in my shoulders uncoiled, though the sweat that had broken out above my brow remained. Then Luke spoke, his gravelly voice soothing me in away nothing else ever could. The same voice I heard that day six years ago when I had run away, and he had found me in a dark, wet alley. Voice clear even with the heavily falling rain that was pelting down around us, drowning out every other sound.
