Eliza and Alex were sitting on the couch when everything went dark.
"Power outage. I'll go get the candles," Eliza told Alex.
"We have flashlights," Alex pointed out.
Eliza sighed, "What's the point of having a power outage if you're going to use a flashlight?"
"There is no 'point' to power outages. They aren't supposed to happen."
"I'll go get the candles," Eliza said.
Eliza came back a few minutes later, holding candles and a matchbox.
"So, what do you want to do now?" Eliza asked, lighting the first candle.
"I don't know. We could play a board game or something. If we have any of those lying around," Alex suggested.
"We might have a game of Risk somewhere around here. I'll go check."
She came back not too long after holding a game of Risk.
"Nice, we actually have it. You can go first," Alex told Eliza.
Hours passed, and the two of them stayed there playing the game. Sometime when they were playing, the lights turned back on, but they were too caught up in the game to notice.
"I win," said Alex, taking Eliza's last territory.
Eliza frowned, "I shouldn't have played with such a good strategist."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"Rematch?" Eliza asked.
"I'd love to, but it's getting late. How about we pick this up tomorrow?"
"Deal."
Alex won the next day, but they still got to spend time with each other by trying to beat the other at a war game.
