Alexander had to leave to go to fight in the Revolutionary War, and Eliza was not pleased.
"Alexander, please don't go," Eliza pleaded with Alexander.
"I'm sorry, my love, but you know I have to," Alexander told her.
"But you don't know what's out there! You could get hurt or killed or-"
"Eliza, I know what's out there. I know what weapons they have, and I know their strategies. I'll be fine. Also, if it makes you feel better, I won't be out fighting them. Washington won't give me a command," Alexander said to calm Eliza down.
"But, what if they raid your camp!" Eliza asked, not calmed down by Alexander's reassurance.
Alexander grabbed Eliza's hand, "Eliza, I promise you I'll be fine."
"Is there any way I can convince you to stay?" Eliza asked.
Alexander laughed, "No, I'm afraid that I have to go."
"Alright. Promise me that if things get too dangerous, you'll ask Washington if you can come home," Eliza asked of him.
"Eliza-"
"Promise me?" Eliza pleaded.
"Alright, I promise that if things get too dangerous, I'll ask Washington if I can come home. But, he might not let me come back-"
"Thank you, Alexander," Eliza hugged him, not willing to listen to the last bit.
"I have to finish to go now. I love you, Eliza," Alexander told her.
"I love you too, Alexander. Stay safe," She said.
"I will," Alexander kissed Eliza and left.
