They Comfort You When You're Scared

While all the others had gone to get supplies, you and one other person were sitting around the campfire. As the sun set, the shadows started creaking, groaning, whining, and altogether startling you.

You still weren't used to all of this, and it didn't help that the wound on your arm still hurt from the attack. However, the others had been in this place much longer and were used to the sounds from the monsters of the shadows, so when the person across the fire saw you jumping at the whisper-like sounds coming from the shadows:

Wilson:
He stays quiet at first, looking at you for a moment before looking away again. You could tell he wanted to say something, but he stayed silent.

"These shadows..." he calls, which startles you again. He gives you an apologetic look, raising one hand as if to show he meant no harm. Once he had your attention, he continued, "They can't hurt you as long as you stay in the light." You stare at him for just a moment before you nod slowly, then continue to glance over your shoulder to the trees.

He falls quiet again. You're starting to notice he's not exactly the best with words. The quiet is quickly filled with what sounds like a music box just behind your ear. You squeezed your eyes shut, only to open them again when you felt your feet suddenly frigid.  When you look, you spot a large, clawed hand slowly creeping out from under the log you were sitting on, making you jump up and scream.

Wilson stood up as well, calling your name as he rushed to your side. Once you stood at his side, eyes wide and hands trembling, you looked for the claw on the ground. It was gone. Where did it go? You panted as your eyes darted around, and Wilson placed a hand on your shoulder. "Where... where did it...?" you whispered, and Wilson was quick to move into action.

Before you were even done searching for the hand, Wilson was moving to the chest at the side of the fire. He digs through for a moment before pulling out a small ring of flowers. He walks over to you and calls, "Put this on," while handing it to you. You take it from him, cautiously, and ask, "Why?" He sits back down on the seat beside yours and says, "It should help with them," motioning behind you both.

This answer only confused you more, but he'd apparently been the one surviving in this place the longest, so you assumed he knew what he was talking about. You carefully put the flower crown on your head and smiled at him. He smiled back, though it was tired and almost saddened, as he moved back to his original seat.

"Strange thing about those flowers," he says, his tone much lighter now, "they're all very similar to species we have in our dimension, but have one distinct difference." You hum, raising your eyebrows, and this little show of interest is enough. He grabs for the chest again and calls, "For example, this one is very similar to the helianthus annuus." He holds up what looks like a shrunken-down sunflower. "But the center, where the seeds should be, instead holds hundreds of small eyes that only open on the full moon." That was a bit of a terrifying mental image, but it certainly took your mind off the creatures lurking in the dark. And Wilson could tell.

Soon enough, you were almost completely unaware of the shadows, and the two of you continued to chat until the others began funneling back in.

Willow:
You were trying to distract yourself from the fear by watching Willow happily feed the flames. She had a content smile on her face as she tossed another bundle of dry grass into the fire pit, but this was quickly torn from her face when she heard you yelp in fear.

When she looked up to you, you were staring into the darkness, holding your shoulders. "What's going on?" she asked tenderly, or as tenderly as she could manage. "I heard something... it sounded like-" she cut you off by asking, "Whispering and gasping?" You turn back around and nod. She just nods in time with you silently and stares into the fire pit for a moment.
