we finally make it to the city, we walked through the grass field.
"where's your friends house?" i ask vinnie. "it's uhm on fourth street" he tells me.
i know where fourth street is, it's on the opposite side from where we are.
we begin to walk through our small city. we walk through streets i used to go through everyday, everything looks so much better now than it looked before.
maybe it's because i haven't been here for 6 months, or maybe because i'm about to leave this city behinds.
"it's that house on the left" vinnie points. we both walk up to the doorstep. vinnie knocks in the door.
the door opens revealing a tall, black-haired boy wearing baggy pants and a black tee-shirt.
his eyes widen, "how are you here" he stares at vinnie confused then looks over at me.
"brady, can you step outside real quick so no one sees us" so brady's his name.
"yea" he steps outside and closes the front door.
"i escaped." is all vinnie says. "what do you mean you escaped, and who is she, not trying to be rude or anything" he states.
"i escaped with him" i speak for myself. "why the fuck did y'all escape you know how much trouble you both can get in" he tells us.
i now feel guilty for our actions and that this is reality, there's no going back now.
"look brady i couldn't stay there forever, especially for something you did" he points at him.
brady's face became guilty.
"what do you need me to do, vinnie if someone finds you and they find out i knew you escaped i could get put in jail or worse" he exaggerates a bit.
i roll my eyes waiting for vinnie to get to the point.
"ok just listen, can i borrow a car and give me the money i had for my grandma, we'll leave and you won't have to deal with this and if we get caught we won't rant you out" vinnie tells him.
i just stand there awkwardly waiting for him to respond.
"fine let me go get the money, and tell my mom i'm going out" he tells us.
he walks back inside leaving me and vinnie on the porch alone.
"so where did you live?" i ask him, breaking the awakened silence.
"before my grandma passed i lived a couple of blocks down but i know they probably have the house up for sale or someone already bought it" he tells me.
"it wasn't a very good house but it would've been good if they would have at least gave me some stuff to remember her by" he says.
i can tell he hates talking about her, it's not a good subject since it happened recently, it's still new for him.
"look its gonna be alright ok, we're gonna leave this town and forget about all the bad things that happened in our life" i tell him, trying to make i'm feel better.
"yea i know, also thank you for doing this with me" he says. "no problem vinnie" i say back.
"anyways, where did you live at?" he asks. "i lived a couple of streets that way" i point in a direction.
"oh well we lived nearby i guess" he says. "yea, how come i never knew you, i mean this isn't a big city and i've never seen you around?" i question.
"i never really went to school stayed and helped my grandma most of my life, plus during my childhood my parents died to a house fire along with my sibling" he tells me.
"i'm sorry vinnie" i say truthfully. "it's fine its all in the past" after he says that brady opens the door.
"ok i got the money, it's however much you've had plus some money you grandma left behind for you" he hands vinnie a little backpack with the money inside it.
"thanks" he replies.
"ok follow me" me and vinnie follow him to the back garage.
"here's my car, i'll just switch cars with your old one so no one will know it's your car with the license plate" he tells vinnie.
"ok" "here are the keys and that's all the tank should be full, just promise me you won't come back here ever again" he tells vinnie.
"i promise" vinnie says with no hesitation.
"bye" brady says.
he stands there as me and vinnie get in the car, vinnie starts the engine then starts to drive off.
"ready for this adventure?" he asks me. "yes" i smile.
i turn the radio on to hear an arctic monkeys song.
"i like this song" vinnie says. the song playing is 'do i wanna know' by arctic monkeys.
he turns the song up and we drive away.

i wake up to the bright sun. i wake up confused because i'm in a car, i was expecting a prison cell, but here i am.
i look over and see vinnie asleep. "vinnie" i shake him a bit to wake him up. "hmm" he hums while he rubs his eyes and stretches. "where are we?" i ask. "i needed to sleep, so i parked in an empty parking lot" he tells me.
i look out the window to see it's a small drugstore parking lot.
"can we get off and buy some things like a toothbrush, some clothes and just things we need?" i ask him. "yea of course" "ok well let's go" i tell him. i open the door then i just remember something.
"wait vinnie, i'm not saying this because i'm afraid of you, i know you will never hurt me, but did you get your medication pills?" i duck back into the car waiting for him to respond.
"yes i brought them i made sure not to forget them, i just need to get a water to take them" he shows me the bottle of pills.
"what happens when you run out?" i ask him. "don't worry one pill lasts a while" i don't say anything after that and wait for him to get out of the car.
we start walking into the store he grabs a basket and we go grab things we need. after we get everything we need we pay for it then walk out.
"shouldn't we buy phones?" i ask him. "yea we will i just think when we actually go shopping for clothes and other things it should be somewhere out of state so we don't get caught" he tells me. "yea i agree" i reply back.
we drive off and continue our adventure.

a day has gone by and we're in oklahoma state. we've reached a small city and decided to stay in a motel. vinnie pays for 5 days of staying here so we don't have to travel much.
"this is our motel" he tells me.
i get off and grab some of the things we bought yesterday. we get into the room, its not the best motel ever but also not the worse.
"we'll go buy some new clothes tomorrow, let's get some sleep for tonight" vinnie tells me.
i take off my shoes and lay down in the bed, vinnie lays next to me. he pulls me into his chest as we fall asleep.
