Going back to McDuck Manor with our tails between our legs was just as humiliating as seeing my rape on national news. It was the middle of the night by the time we got there, everyone was asleep, and as Louie and I climbed the grand staircase I couldn't help but rant at myself.
"I'm a S.H.U.S.H agent and we got caught sneaking in F.O.W.L headquarters in less then five minutes!" I whisper grinding my teeth together. "Am I that rusty?"
"No." Louie said, taking my hand. "A bit unfocused, but not rusty."
I look at him sharply and yank my hand out of his hand. He looked a bit hurt and confused.
"What? What'd I say?" He whined as I started to storm off to my room.
"Just leave me alone!" I hissed at him, as I opened the door to my room.
"Athena -." Louie tried again, almost desperately. I glare at him one more time before slipping in my room and quietly closing the door.
Unfocused.
That's all I hear anymore.
From Matt.
From Theo.
From...
Louie.
I closed my eyes and pressed my still bruised back against the door.
The bruise wasn't as bad as two days ago.
But it was still there.
Reminding me that she was still a part of my life.
I slowly slid down the door and hugged my knees close to my chest as I landed with a small thud on the carpet.
"Athena..." Louie's voice came from behind the door softly. "I'm sorry. Whatever I said to make you mad."
I sighed heavily but didn't reply.
"Why not -." Louie began, then hesitated, "Why not try and get some sleep? I got something planned tomorrow for us if you're willing to give me a chance to make this up to you." He told me.
I scowl at that.
Make this up to me?
I don't even know what he had planned in that cute little mind set he has.
I groaned.
Am I that hopelessly in love with him?
If I was, then, I was doomed.
I didn't hear Louie's footstep leave and I didn't move from the door. I was too tired to even try and get up in the bed. Instead, I grabbed his robe that I keep on the back of the door and cuddled up with it, using it as a blanket, and no sooner had my head hit the carpet I had fallen into a deep sleep.
LOUIE'S POV
Okay. So I may have overstepped with Athena somehow. The way she looked at me...
I can tell she was mad.
I was the one who convince her to infiltrate F.O.W.L. But at the time I thought it was a really good idea!
Nick some stuff. Find out what F.O.W.L was planning against my family. Maybe do some internal damage on the building itself...
But then we got caught.
By Athena's step-brother no less.
Of all the people -.
I stare at the closed door that stood between me and the love of my life, feeling guiltier by the minute as I hear her shuffle against the door, then, I see the thin line of her shadow lay flat across the floor.
Was she just going to sleep against the door?
Maybe it made her feel safer.
Fine then.
I march into my room.
Huey was already sound asleep, and snoring on the top bunk of our three way bunk bed. I grabbed my green blanket, and pillow, and quietly left the room and went back to Athena's closed door and flopped myself down on the floor next to her door.
If it made her feel safe to sleep against a closed door, then I was going to do my part and make sure she isn't alone. She was never going to feel alone again.
Not while I'm still alive.
I curled up with my blanket and prompt my pillow up against the door and thought about how I was going to make this up to her tomorrow until I fell asleep.
LATER...
I wake up to cold water being dumped on my face. I quickly shoot up and bump my head against someone who yelped.
I groaned and rubbed my head as I opened my eyes.
"Webby?" I choke out once my blurry vision came back to normal.
"What are you doing at Athena's door at four in the morning?" Webby hissed at me. She crouched down, still holding the small tin bucket in her hands. I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Wondering what the hell you were thinking waking me up like that!" I snap at her. "I'm freezing!" I complained. I tried wrapping myself even tighter with my now very soaked blanket while my whole body started to tremble.
"Sorry about that, Louie, but we've got a problem, I tried getting you on your cellphone. Have you even checked your messages?" She snapped at me.
I blinked.
My messages?
I quickly dug out cellphone and breathed a sigh of relief that it was still working after that rude wake up call. I turned it off before Athena and I entered the F.O.W.L building and as I turned it on Webby huffed impatiently in front of me as I checked them.
Nearly a hundred messages from her popped up.
I stared at my phone then back at Webby.
"What was so urgent that you had to call me over a thousand times in the past five hours?" I asked her in disbelief.
"Come with me." Webby said, grabbing the front of my hoodie and pulling me towards her bedroom. I dug my feet and struggled against her, not wanting to leave Athena's door in case she had another nightmare, but Webby gripped my hoodie tighter and looked back at me sharply. "Stop it, will ya." She demanded. "You have to know what's going on."
I stopped struggling.
"What is going on?" Louie asked.
Webby didn't answer me right away until she threw open her bedroom door and pushed me roughly inside before quickly and quietly shutting it behind her.
"It's bad. Louie. Really bad." Said a voice from behind me.
I jumped and turned my head.
"Lena? Violet? When did you guys -?" I stuttered.
"While you were on your 'date,' with Athena." Violet answered, she used air quotes around the word date.
I narrowed my eyes at her.
"That wasn't a date -. It was -." I began.
"Whatever." Lena interrupted. She turned to Webby. "Did you tell him yet?"
"I was just about too." Webby answered back.
"Tell me what?" I asked, tiredly.
All three looked at each other before Webby took a deep shaky breath and answered first.
"My Granny is missing."
