ZEHRA POV

I hum along to all the songs on my playlist, as I vacuum the floor. I'm fine! Just doing some cleaning!

"Mmm mm mmm~" I hum as I fix my earbuds in my ear.

"....a?" I hear a woman speak. But it's not in my song....

"...ra!" I take out my ear buds and turn around and face my aunt. She's holding a laundry basket with clean, folded clothes. She was probably in here to do her job, until she caught me.

"Auntie Beakley! Hi!!" I turn off the vacuum machine and face her. "Wait. How are you here?! Weren't you captured?! IS ATHENA HERE?!" I yell.

"No, dear. It's just me." Auntie says.  "I'm your mind! You've been needing some help... emotionally? So now I'm here. Keep in mind, I'm not real. I don't want you to be hurt in the end..."

She studies the floor, and my face. "What are you doing, dear?" She tries to take the vacuum from my hand, but I guard it.

"Just... some winter cleaning!" I lie, obvious tears forming in my eyes.

I'm trying to distract myself from the fight.

"Oh, you don't need to do that. After all, it is my job!" She laughs at her own "joke".

I laugh, too. Again, I. Don't. Get. It. "I know, I'm just trying to take my mind off Louie and Athena!" The lies just keep coming...

After a while, auntie speaks. "Should we call D-"

"NO!" I interrupt, making her stare. "He um..." I smile a sad smile. "He doesn't want to see me."

Auntie Beakley rolls her eyes and places down the basket she was holding. "That's nonsense. He loves you!"

A tear rolls down my cheek.

"Oh... How bad?" She asks, sitting down on the bed, patting a spot next to her for me. I sit and flop back on my bed.

"Real bad." I answer. "He tried to kiss me... again... and I rejected it... again... and he sorta... left."

"Hmm..." Auntie says, and we sit in silence for a long while. "Alright, well, this room isn't going to fix itself!"

Wait. What?

She holds her hand out, and I smile. I grab the strong lady's hand and let her pull me up.

"Now. You will finish vacuuming, then move on to these clothes-" She hands me the basket ... which is TALL might I add! "-then I'll have you change the bed sheets, pillow sheets, and get new blankets. Then I'll have you clean the bathroom outside, then you'll move onto the other rooms, too. Oh and we can't forget...."

I zone her out. Finally. A distraction... until I can find my sister...

Oh Athena... where are you?! I need your help! If you can't help me move on, then... I'll never be happy with Dewey. And... that's what we want... right? To be happy?

But... are we already happy? How do you know if your happy and in love? Am I even capable of love after everything that's happened?

"What's love?" I blurt out.

Auntie stops moving and faces me. "Pardon?"

"What does it feel like? How do you KNOW it's love?" I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't think I-

"You don't know if you love Dewey...?" Auntie whispers, and I shake my head.

She smiles likes she's remembering something. "Love... Heh, well..." She looks at me with a sad smile, as if she knows exactly what I'm going through. "It's... like an umbrella made of sunlight, which protects you during the storm..." ~Bentina Beakley, 2020
