Chapter 22 - Athena

She rejected me! 

Again! 

Was that all I was to her? 

Some form of reject that she can just... 

Toss away for someone else? 

I would never. 

Not in a million years do that to her! 

I mean, if it came down to Zehra and Louie or even Dad! I would have chosen Zehra every single time, and without hesitation! I knew Dad would have approved at least, Louie would understand seeing he had siblings of his own he'd do the same thing for. As for Matt... 

I feel my left eye twitch. 

This was all his fault! 

If he hadn't shown up at that stupid gala none of this would be happening to me! 

"This was a big waste of time." I mutter. "Come on, Louie. Let's go." I said, and started to pull him away from F.O.W.L headquarters when he tugged me back. 

I glanced back at him and he was staring at a door that was slightly ajar. He slowly turned back to me and a wide smirk slowly formed on his bill causing butterflies to form in my stomach at the sight. 

"No." I hiss at him, reading his mind. "Louie... It's not safe..." I told him. 

"Come on, Athena." Louie whispered back as he pulled me along a nearby bush. We crouched down and he held onto my hands making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Which was just as well considering it was freezing cold out. 

It had taken us a long while to get to F.O.W.L headquarters. After pleading with Louie to first; find a way to F.O.W.L headquarters, and two; to get me there so I could talk to my sister. He had to sneak into Auntie Beakley's bedroom, look for some old files of hers, with Webby's help, and find the location all without getting caught, then, it took three bus rides just to get to the location the headquarters was located not to mention it took half the day on foot to reach the actual building and by the time we finally reached it. 

It had turned dark. 

Talk about a first date. 

Was this a date? 

I hadn't ever been on one but I know this probably wouldn't have counted as a date. 

But then again... 

"Now's our chance to infiltrate F.O.W.L." Louie whispered to me. 

"What? No!" I whispered back. "What if we get caught? What if you got caught? I - I couldn't live with myself if anything happened to you -" 

"Athena." Louie said, smoothly, he released one of his hands and cupped my cheek with it. I instantly calming me down. I stare at him. That electrical surge going through me erupted at his very touch making my entire body melt into his hand alone. 

How does he do that ? 

He rubbed his thumb slightly over my cold cheek and I closed my eyes, enjoying his warmth. 

 I could tell Louie felt it too because he cleared his throat nervously and quickly pull his hand away from my face. I whimper at the loss making Louie chuckle softly. 

"This would be perfect for me to nick some stuff from F.O.W.L that we can use against them later, and maybe free some of the artifacts that they stolen." He told me. "I'm sure you can build up some points with S.H.U.S.H too right?" He asked, giving me those puppy dog eyes. 

I stare at him and before I knew what I was doing I sighed heavily and nodded. Louie's smirk turned into a wide grin and he squeezed my hand tightly.
