Chapter 27: Sweet, Oh Sweet Sixteen

Alana POV

I don’t know why but life had handed me a whole load of problems lately.

I found myself curling up on the cold gym floor and stared up at the ceiling. I felt like my whole world had been shaken and turned upside down.

After the attack, pieces had fallen into place for me. When Eric had kissed me after I had killed the strigoi it was like a flood of emotions had taken over. The most prominent being my undying love for a man I couldn’t have. I would never be able to be with Eric without having someone judging us.

I felt my hands go numb and my whole body turn cold.

I don’t know how long I laid there. Maybe hours or days. I jumped when I heard the gym door open.

Asher walked in, a water bottle in his hand and a towel in the other. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me and immediately turned around and started heading back out.

“Wait.” I called out. He stopped walking and I saw his shoulders become stiff.

I gulped and stood up, “I know you’re mad. I know I hurt you.”

I didn’t know what else to say. Asher turned and it was the first time I ever really saw him angry.

“What do you want from me Alana? I basically profess my love for you just to have it thrown back at me? I should have never said anything.”

“Asher…”

“Just save it. I have been in love with you since we were kids and on the playground. I have always been there to help pick up the pieces when you needed me too.”

His fists clenched and he turned quickly and punched the wall. It was loud and thundering and made me jump. Something I was not accustomed to doing.

He breathed once. Then twice. Finally he spoke, “It will never work with him. He’s your teacher.”
