Every day she would walk into the lonely coffee shop on the corner, just to get her regular black coffee and talk with her friend. She felt along the side of the outer walls of the street buildings until the scent of coffee, and the change of the brick wall, she knew where she was.
She walked in to hear her friend call out her name, " morin' Toph." he said, patting a place at a two seat table where they sat every day. Her friend had worked at the shop as a job, since he had dropped out of school. Said it wasnt for him, and he was better off with a little reckless freedom in his life.
She gave a faint smile and followed her feet to the seat, where a cup of coffee was waiting for her, "Morning," she said before taking a quick sip, " Hows your day been?" he asked him. He chuckled, sitting down across from her, still holding the broom in his hand, witch he was sweeping with, "Its only 8:00 in the morning sweetie."
She liked it when he called her that. It always brought a smile onto her face, and made her heart jump of love. She had secretly had the biggest crush on him, and was careful to keep it from everyone. She just look her head a little, " Oh, I know, school hadnt start yet, I just wanted to see how you are feeling today. Thats all." she said with a shrug.
Her friend smiled, leaning the broom against the table so he didnt have to hold it, "thats nice of you sweetie, Im doing just fine, how are you?" he returned the question. "Just fine, but not looking forward for school today." she said honestly.
His smile faded a tad as he leaded closer to her, "why? somthin' wrong?" he asked, wanting to hold onto her hand. She sighed, " There is this mean kid who is always makin' fun of the kids who dont fit in an' all. And my friend at school is starting to worry me by sayin' shes coming for the disable kids next."
His heart jumped when he heard that. His hands turned into balls of fist, and his eyebrows bent down, "who is she? 'Cuz shes not gonna hurt you before I have a chance to-" she covered his mouth with her hand, "No need snoozles, ill be fine. Dont worry." she told him.
"Imma be fine, I have my other friends who go to my school to help me," she had paused, "Maybe." He rose an eyebrow at her, "what do you mean by maybe?" he asked, starting to get madly confused on what she was trying to tell him.
"All my friends are at least a grade up, than me, so I only get to see 'em at lunch, but this girl." she sighed, "This girl has her ways." She shook her head at that thought of this bully. He reached out for her hand, and held onto it. "can you come here for your lunch break today? so I can see you, and so she does not find you during lunch." he asked, "please." he started to beg.
She nodded with a slight smile, " sure snoozles." he then smiled back and gave her hand a slight squeeze, "thanks sweetie."
At lunch
The bell at the front door of the cornered coffee shop rang, as she walked through. He noticed her, and gave her a smile, but it slowly faded. He saw her eye was now a purplish black, witch made him want to slap who ever had hurt her. He checked in with his boss earlier for his lunch break when ever she got here, and he was allowed to it.
He walked up to her and grabbed her hand. She knew it was him, just by the feeling of his hand around her's. He led her out of the shop, and walked her to the park nearby, bringing some food of course. He found a tree and had her sit next to him, leaning up against the tree.
He then looked at her eyes again. One was still its normal milky self, but the other was bruised. He felt as if he had let her down by letting her get hurt like this. "Sweetie, what happend?" he asked. She let out a shaky sigh, and started to tell her story, "I was on my way out of school, 'bout to head your way, when she had noticed me. She an' her group of evil started to tease me, but I really didnt mind, an' when she saw that she-"
"she hit you?" he finished for her. She nodded, her milky eyes focused on the grass they were sat upon, even though she could not see it. He let out an irritable sigh, "mh, when I get my hands on her-" he was cut off.
"no!" she said, "no, I dont want you to come to my school just to beat up som' kid for me, 'cuz she was an' utter jerk." she shook her head, "trust me, I will be fine." He wanted to argue. He wanted to go and teach that kid a lesson that she would never forget. But he was not going to let his sweetie be mad at him.
"I promise, sweetie."
"thanks snoozles."
