BELLE POV

“You seen ‘em yet?” My best friend, Savannah, came skittering to a stop in the middle of our brand new polished school hallways. EHS was just rebuilt, making Wildcat pride pour out of every soul in this old town. Her dark brown hair was flying in all sorts of different directions, making me ignore her question and mentally question how in the hell she was wearing it down in this heat. “Belle!” She shook me when I didn’t answer.

“Jesus, Savv, what is it?” I snapped back to reality.

“Gosh.” She rolled her eyes. “The two new kids. Have you seen them?”

I shook my head, immediately feeling sorry for whoever was unfortunate enough to move to Nowheresville USA, more commonly known as Enterprise, Alabama. The town was old as dirt, previous high school falling down, generations of families never picking up to move. People were either dirt poor or well off. “No, Savv. What’s so special about ‘em?”

She clapped her hands, giddy already. It was hard to stay mad at her. She was a cutie, truly. She had a nice athletic body, just curvy enough to drive boys mad. Her fair freckled skin was tanned nicely, her teeth recently straightened by the graces that were braces. She had deep chocolate eyes, same shade as her hair. Simply put, Savannah was your typical jock. Volleyball team captain, honor roll grades, she was going somewhere big in life. “They’re, like, punk. Belle, I swear to the almighty you’ve gotta see ‘em. They’re got tattoos and piercings and combat boots and one of them’s got green hair!”

Now I was listening more intently. Usually the new kids we got were jacked up football meatheads or juvenile delinquents. Punk kids were rare. “Are they close?”

Savv nodded, turned around, and walked smack into my boyfriend. He laughed and steadied her. “Watch out, Savannah. I’d hate to hurt you before tournament season.”

“Hi Drew.” She rolled her eyes, batting his hands off her shoulders. The pair of them were roughly the same height, Drew having two inches on her. Savannah was a 5’10, and tough as nails. Drew was a lean and mean football machine. The star quarterback, pride and joy of the town. He and I had been dating for about 10 months. Savannah ‘put up with him’.

“Hi baby.” I gushed. Drew stepped around Savv and wrapped me in a large hug. His arms folding around me were the safest place in the world. In his pure blue eyes, I felt perfect.

“You look absolutely stunning today, darlin’.” He winked, keeping one arm around my shoulders. I looked down, despite knowing what I was wearing. His ‘Enterprise High School Football’ t shirt, ‘Bradshaw’ spelled across the back in prominent blue bold letters. I smiled down, big ole wildcat pride brimming in me. Football was all you had in a town like this, and dating the school’s sweetheart had it’s perks.

“Thanks Drew.” I pecked him on the cheek.

“You haven’t seen the new kids have you?” he asked, blue eyes flashing. I shook my head, ignoring Savannah’s protests from the side. “They look like a couple of tools. City boys, no doubt. They’ll smarten up real quick.”

“Drew…” I warned, a warning edge to my voice.

He raised his hands in an attempt at innocence. “I would never, baby, but you know how the team is.”

“I also know you’re the captain, Drew.” I poked him in the chest. “Please, don’t hurt anyone.”

“I would never.” he assured me, planting a kiss on my lips.

“Get a room.” Savannah groaned, placing both hands over her face. “Some of us are still innocent, y’know.”

Drew smiled at me then looked at Savannah, “Jack has asked about you a bunch-”
