It was their first examination period in the school since they became friends. This was before Kim went to Way's house to fight his father, so Way is still carefree about his studies.
People are different when they're under stress.
The classroom that's usually lively after class is far from it today. Instead of the usual small gatherings, most of the students stay seated in their own chair, focused only on whatever paper is in front of them.
It's not the same for Way, though.
Way is bored. He looks around but doesn't have anyone to talk to or play with. Kim hasn't moved an inch in the past hour, except his hands to write or flip the pages.
Speaking of which, he also hasn't drank a sip of water, or even eaten anything today.
Sighing, Way gets up to go to the canteen.
He wonders why Kim is studying so hard.
Well, Kim usually studies hard, but he knows when to take a break. At least that was what Way had thought until now.
He sets the tuna sandwich on Kim's table, with a yoghurt drink on the side. He had intentionally chosen the foods which were quick and easy to eat, that can be eaten conveniently while studying.
"Kim, take a break. You haven't eaten all day."
"I'm fine, Way. You eat." Kim doesn't look up from his stack of past year papers.
"So you want me to feed you?" Way smirks, hoping it would trigger Kim enough to eat something.
Kim pauses for a moment.
Way thinks it has worked. Finally, Kim is going to rest. He wonders for a moment if brains would burn like an overheated machine when you used them the way Kim did.
"Go ahead."
"...what?" Way did not expect this. He thought Kim would glare at him and eat every bite of the sandwich just to prove him wrong. But he didn't think Kim would actually say yes.
Kim seemed not the least bit bothered, and Way hides that he was shaken just a second ago. He doesn't want to lose to Kim.
"Alright, you asked for it!" Way says, almost as though he's accepting a challenge.
He picks up the sandwich wrapped in foil and starts to peel off the packaging. He removes the sandwich from the packaging and holds it, his mind a blank.
Once Way decides he's going to do something, he always goes through with it. He's done plenty of crazy things, like joining gang fights or running around the school naked.
But right now, his hands were trembling ever so slightly. It shouldn't be a big deal, logically speaking. It's just feeding a person. But love's not logic. Way just hasn't realized that yet.
While he was having his inner debate, Kim suddenly turns his head and takes a surprise bite of the sandwich, before turning back again like nothing happened.
Way chuckles at how quickly Kim can shift all of his attention back to his work again. This boy is probably just too hungry.
Now, he notices Kim has stopped chewing and automatically lifts the sandwich to Kim's mouth for Kim's next bite.
Kim wordlessly does so.
And this repeats a few times.
Once the sandwich is finished, Way dusts his hands and wipes Kim's mouth with a tissue. He felt like he was taking care of a child, except Kim doesn't look like a child at all.
