At the end of their second year in high school, Way and Kim went on an unplanned trip by themselves.
It was a much needed escape for the both of them. They didn't know it at that time, but the memories they made during that short getaway would remain with them for a lifetime.
Way remembers the day Kim showed up at his doorstep, red eyes and slightly swollen, seemingly having cried before that. He told Way that he wanted to run away from everything.
It was like a scene out of a television drama.
"Then let's go." Way simply replied. He was taken aback by the scene in front of him, but he knew that something bad must have happened.
Kim was strong. He had a strong mind, stood up for himself and those who couldn't stand up for themselves, protected his possessions fiercely and always pushed himself to his limits. But no one is strong all the time.
Kim crying didn't mean he was weak. It meant that he had been strong for too long.
Kim thought for a moment that Way must be saying it just to make him feel better, but Way had said it so bluntly and without a hint of hesitation. He was no doubt serious.
"Didn't you make plans with PhingPhing this holiday already?" Kim recalls that his best friend had a girlfriend, and they always spent their school breaks together.
In fact, he already realized this on his way to Way's house, but he still ended up at his door, not knowing where else he would go for comfort.
Kim looked so tired in that moment. He was never one who complained, always choosing to keep everything bottled up in him.
It's one of the few things that Way scolds Kim for, along with picking fights he can't possibly win by himself and getting hurt. Other times, it's mostly Kim scolding him.
"Um, she said she's travelling with her parents this time."
Way knew he would have to make it up to the PhingPhing sometime later. Man, that girl knew how to get angry.
But that was not a concern of his now.
Right now, Kim needed his support, and he was going to give his best friend all the support that he needed.
