One-shots for WayKim because they deserved better.
~
I try to fill up the gaps before the events in the shipper series, focusing on what could have happened between Kim and Way and how they fell deeper and deeper in love without realizing. We don't...
Kim sends a text to Way. He wanted to cheer Way on for his first competition, but he didn't really know how to go about doing it.
So, he thought long and hard about it, and eventually decided to get Way a towel wristband with his name embroidered on it. He hopes it's enough to show Way that he'll always be beside him, supporting him.
"What's up?" Way's voice draws all of his attention back.
He turned around and saw Way in his basketball Jersey, revealing his nicely toned arms. Way wore his jacket so often that Kim felt somewhat weird to see his arms exposed like this.
"Give me your hand."
Way opens up his palm and Kim gently places the wristband in it.
Way is pleasantly surprised. It's a black wristband with the word "WAY" embroidered in red thread.
"Did you buy this on sale too?" Way asks with a huge grin on his face.
"No. It was a free gift. And I can't return it." Kim wanted to say he picked it up from the floor, but that's not doing the money he spent on it any justice.
"A free gift with my name on it? I must be really lucky!" Way laughs while saying.
"Well, do you want it or -"
"Thank you." Way says sincerely, catching Kim off guard.
"Yeah. Do your best later and don't embarrass our school team."
"Well, as thanks for the recruitment form and the wristband, "
Way pauses.
"I'll win this match for you. So keep your eyes on me okay?" Way looks at Kim charmingly.
Way is cool when he's confident like that, Kim thinks.
True enough, Way demonstrates his remarkable skill from the get-go. His opponents are no match for him as he speeds past them and scores goal after goal.
Kim watches from the stand, along with many others cheering for each team.
Way is shining really brightly now. His light is so dazzling that it's almost blinding. Way seems like he belongs on the court, his movements graceful yet powerful and swift.
And that wristband really suits him a lot.
His thoughts were interrupted when a player from the opposing team bumped into Way, knocking both of them to the ground.
Way didn't know if it was on purpose, but the other player interlocked his leg and when he falls, it twists unnaturally.
Way felt a sharp pain on his ankle when he tried to get up.
He contemplates what he should do next for a moment, until he catches a glimpse of his wristband. He's reminded of the promise he just made to Kim.
Wiping the sweat off this forehead with the wristband, Way slowly gets up, mentally and physically pushing himself to his limits.
"It's not painful at all. I'm fine." Way convinces himself and everyone around him.
"This dumbass." Kim says to himself.
So the game continues, but Kim was on edge the whole time, watching Way struggle to make each pass. Every time his face winces in pain when he jumps a little bit too high and lands with greater impact, Kim notices and wants to shout to Way to stop.
But he knows that the boy will not leave the match like this.
After what seemed like an eternity for the both of them, the match had finally ended.
And despite all the trouble, Way's team had won, thanks to the good start at the beginning. The whole stadium fills with cheers from the audience.
Kim picks up the sports drink he had just bought and walks to Way, who had a small smile on his face.

Without any warning, he presses the cold drink on Way's ankle.
It looked slightly swollen by now.
"You're crazy." Kim says
"And stupid, you know that? How can you still be smiling?" Kim adds on.
"What if you end up with a long term injury, huh? What will you do then?" Kim starts to scold Way.
"Then it'll all be worth it." Way says calmly.
It's Way's first trophy from a competition. He takes it and passes it to Kim.
"For you. I wouldn't have gotten this without you."
"I have plenty at home and in the school's hall of fame. You can keep it." He knows how hard Way has worked for this, and he hopes it'll be a reminder for Way to do the things he likes best.
"Now let's go find that asshole who tripped you." Kim says.
And that was the beginning of Way's collection of trophies. Each one, he obtained with the help of a certain black wristband that had his name embroidered on it.
