Kim is a light sleeper.
Sometimes, or oftentimes if we were to be honest, Kim has trouble falling asleep at night.
But he doesn't call it insomnia, though. He doesn't want to think that it's a problem.
Instead of lying down and trying to sleep, he always gets up to do something else. Study, exercise, learn Japanese- whatever it is, he would rather do than be alone with his thoughts in the dark room.
If he's lucky, he eventually becomes tired enough to fall asleep.
If he's not so lucky, the sun would rise before he realizes and it would be another day without sleep for him.
Kim also likes to curl up when he sleeps. With his knees close to his chest, he hugs any soft pillow or plush which brings him comfort.
Way secretly thinks Kim's sleeping position is cute, like a child, and makes him want to take care of Kim while he sleeps. He often wonders if there was any meaning behind sleeping positions, like if people curl up that means they are insecure or keep many secrets.
On the other hand, Way goes to sleep with his arms and legs spread out completely, like a starfish.
And he moves around a lot in his sleep. Rolling, kicking, hugging. Seven out of ten times, he wakes up on the other side of the bed or on the floor.
The first time Way and Kim slept side-by-side was at a school camp.
They shared a tent with two other boys, with Kim sleeping on the inside while Way sleeping at the corner.
That night, Way fell asleep almost immediately and Kim watched him for a short while, silently.
"Do you dream of me?" he wonders but doesn't ask aloud.
Kim revels in the serenity of that moment, but he's interrupted as Way stretches his arms in his sleep and they land directly on Kim's face.
"Ouch."
Kim pushes Way's hand away and decides to turn in for the night. He feels strange that he doesn't have anything to hug.
In the middle of the night, Way is tossing and turning around, as usual. At one point, he almost kicks the tent down.
Unconsciously, his body seemed to find peace when he moved closer to Kim, and he moved around a lot less. So he stayed there.
In the morning, Way wakes up first. Everyone else in the tent is still fast asleep.
Kim's curled up, but instead of hugging his usual pillow, it is replaced by Way's muscular arm. Way's hand lands at an awkward position, inches away from the seam of Kim's pants.
He decides that it's fine, they can stay like this for a while more as long as Kim is comfortable. He lifts his other arm up and positions it under his head, paying attention to not make sudden movements.
Way lets his thoughts run by themselves.
Kim would never do this if he were conscious. Kim likes to be independent, but only because what he's been through makes him trust only himself.
He is almost always on edge, rarely ever allowing himself to be fully relaxed. To see him sleeping so peacefully shocked Way. He wanted this moment to last as long as possible.
He feels it's almost as if Kim is clinging on to him for dear life. As if he's the one providing Kim the comfort and protection to fall asleep safely. As if letting go would hurt him.
But the moment doesn't last long, as Kim wakes up, making a soft "hmmm" sound as he struggles to open his eyes fully.
When he does, he notices their position almost immediately. His eyes shoot open.
"Sorry. " he blurts out, trying not to make a big deal out of it.
"It's alright, who can blame you? I know my strong arms are irresistible. " Way teases.
"Yeah right, your arms were so soft. You might as well stop going to the gym."
"Oh... So it's comfortable because it's soft?" Way says with a smirk on his face.
Kim stares at Way.
"I was just trying to stop you from hitting me in your sleep." Kim doesn't know what else to say.
And so their bickering continues.
