The story behind Kim's fight for Way.
Way hasn't come to school for the past 3 days.
Kim looks at the empty seat beside him and he feels slightly empty as well, like something is missing.
He pulls out his phone and checks his texts with Way, but it's the same as he last checked 15 minutes ago.
'Where are you, Way?'
'Are you sick?'
'Please reply when you see this.'
Kim starts to wonder if his phone is spoilt, or maybe Way already replied but his message somehow didn't get delivered.
Just when he thinks he's about to spend his fourth day at school alone again, Way comes in to the classroom.
Before he could get happy, though, Kim notices the bruises on him couldn't have been done by another high schooler.
They were deep, a dark shade of purple and blue. Some of the wounds were still bleeding, like the split at the side of his lip. Kim feels his stomach churn.
Way's face is almost always bruised. Just when you think the old wounds are about to recover, it's not long before he gets into another fight. By now, he was used to seeing small bruises on Way.
Admittedly, some of these fights he got into was because of Kim.
But the wounds that day seemed far, far more terrible. They were unlike what Kim has seen before.
And it wasn't only his face.
When Way moved, it seemed like each step that he took, he was in pain. His movements were restricted and unnatural.
When Way finally reaches his seat and sits down, Kim immediately takes action.
He grabs Way's arm and lifts it up to get a better look, noticing that Way flinched slightly when he did so.
Way tries to shake Kim off, but it only makes Kim grab his arm tighter. His face twists in pain.
Kim feels bad, but he pulls the sleeves of his jacket back to expose his arms.
He sees dark blue bruises scattered all over and felt a sharp pang in his heart. It hurt him to imagine the kind of pain Way must be experiencing, his scars still fresh.
But Kim knew this was not normal. Way was an exceptionally good fighter. He could defeat a whole gang by himself. Kim has never seen Way with wounds this bad before. Kim pouts slightly while examining Way's wounds.
"Who did you fight?" Kim questions.
"I didn't fight." If it were anyone else, Way probably wouldn't have bothered to reply. He would probably have gotten angry if they grabbed his arm like that. But it wasn't just anyone, it was Kim. It was Kim who's face looks as if he's the one that got hit instead of Way.
"Then how did you get these wounds? Fell down and hit your face?" Kim doesn't give in.
There was a momentary pause as Way gives up. He knows Kim wouldn't let him get away without an answer.
"My father."
"Oh... " Kim did not expect that. No wonder Way had all these wounds. He probably didn't even fight back or try to defend himself.
"Let's get your wounds fixed up first." Kim changes the topic, knowing that Way isn't likely going to say anything else about it.
He sighs. He's getting better and better at treating fight wounds everyday though he wishes that were not the case.
Kim was ready to charge and make whoever did that to Way pay for it. He was going to make them pay dearly for hurting Way this bad.
But now, he knows the person he's up against is Way's father. He needs a better plan.
So Kim comes up with a better plan. A plan to fight for Way's future.
