The next morning, Sam knocked on Andy's door and Opie answered it.

"Howdy, Sam" he said.

"Hi, Opie. I'm here to see your pa" Sam said.

"Sorry, ma'am. He's, uh... what's the word? Incapacitated" said Opie.

"What's his problem?" Sam said.

"Last night, he was stood up for a date." said Opie.

"Is that the real reason me and Gomer were working alone?" Sam said.

"I can't say I'm sure, ma'am" said Opie.

"Well, if you ever see him before he comes to work, would you tell him I was here?" Sam said.

"Of course, Sam" said Opie.

And Sam left.

"Who was it, Ope?" said Andy.

"It was Sam Pan, Pa. She came to see ya but I told her you got stood up" said Opie.

In the office...

"Mornin' Sam" said Barney.

"Mornin', Barney. Mornin', Gomer" Sam answered.

"Mornin', honey" said Gomer.

"How'd last night go?" said Barney.

"Calvin back home called. He said my boyfriend has the worstest flu" Sam said.

"Oh yeah? Who's your boyfriend?" said Barney.

"He's the Wiggles' lead guitarist. Murray" Sam said.

"Golly, Sam. You have the most interesting friends" said Gomer.

"I know right?" Sam said.

"Sam. My son said you stopped by my house this mornin" said Andy when he got there.

"Yeah. I wanted to ask you for a raise. The outbreak is getting worse at home" Sam said.

"How much money do you need, honey?" said Andy.

"It's hard to say. I just need enough to save Murray" Sam said.

"To save who?" said Andy.

"Her man" said Barney.

"How come this love thing works for Sam but not me?" said Andy.

"I couldn't say" said Gomer.

"How about this. You raise my payment to twice the amount of my normal payment" Sam said.

"Deal." said Andy.

Suddenly...

"Officer Pan. I need to speak with you. It's important" said Ben as he stormed in.

"Excuse me" Sam said.

"Now, look here, officer. You did put a roof over Bert Miller's new stand. That is the right thing. But he is still on the street. It's still against the law" said Ben.

"Mr Weaver. I don't want you to think I'm dumb" Sam said.

"I do not think you're dumb" said Ben.

"Thank you. But I'm doing this to make money to save my boyfriend and friend from a flu outbreak. Please let me slide on this" Sam said.

"Very well." said Ben.

At least Sam stood up to Ben herself now.

Let's check back with Murray in the next chapter, shall we?

Peace and love,

Sammy
