After much experimentation, Laurel discovered many of the ingredients of the toxin. It was missing a few components, however. Days passed by as Laurel experimented with all of the ingredients she could, fathom. All of her years training at the Academy could not prepare her for this monumental task.

A knock on the door withdrew her from her daily encampment, only coming out for quick meals and brief hellos. Tamani slowly wedges the door open, peaking in. Seeing Laurel immersed in her work, he silently walked in and his warm arms wrapped around her torso, placing his head on her shoulder.

With a sigh he said, "Morning,"

"Hey," she says smiling, running a hand through his hair. Pulling away from his grasp, she continued her experimentation, researching up on all of the possible remaining components.

With a frustrated sigh, Tamani approached her once again and said in a hurt tone, "Okay, or not talk to me." Rubbing his palms against his jeans uncomfortably he blurts, "Okay, what is going on with you, Laurel. You've hardly spoken two words to me the past week. Can you not tell that it's driving me insane? Usually, back when you wouldn't talk to me for months- sometimes even years- at a time, I would be able to pass the time with Shar. But now he doesn't remember anything whatsoever and you're ignoring me." He shakes his head and averts his eyes, "Sometimes I wonder if you even care."

This was enough to steer Laurel away from her work. Her chair screeched against the floor as she bolted around frustrated. "Tam, I'm so sorry that I made you feel that way, but can you not tell that I'm just extremely busy with my studies? I-"

Tamani cut her off. "Busy enough that you can't even spare a few seconds?" He still didn't look at her.

Laurel sighed and ran a hand through her blonde hair. "Okay, listen. I'm really sorry, Tam. I'm just so stressed and I feel like if I'm taken away from my studies too much, I'll never figure it out. But I'll put away time tonight. It'll be me you and the kids, okay?"

Tamani still looks out the window and Laurel's fingertips pulled Tamani's head, so that he was staring in her eyes.

"I promise," she whispers.

His deep green eyes meet her's and their gaze is held. "I love you, Laurel. So so much," he whispered in reply before their faces slowly inched forward. The gap was closed and only their lips met. Hesitantly, but filled with love.

"I'll leave you to your work, then," Tamani said, stepping away and exiting the room.

Laurel smirked for a moment, then returned to her work.
