Maggie's Point Of View
"Edward, you didn't tell me your wife was a shield," Eleazer said, as he walked outside to where Edward, Bella, Kate, and I were. "What's a shield?" "The ones I've met are so different," Edward commented, as I replied to Bella. "It's a defensive talent," I half explained. "That's why I couldn't read your mind before. That's why Aro couldn't," Edward added. He must have realized how stupid he was for not recognizing that his mate was before this unexpected visit. Edward smiled at me and nodded his head a bit, telling me we did know how dumb he was. "You have a very powerful gift." My electrokinesis sister grinned, suddenly grabbing the shield's hand. "Oh yea, she's a shield all right. That move should have put her on her back," Kate said grudgingly. She didn't like it when her ability wasn't working or was proved that it wouldn't work on a certain person. "Or your voltage has been exaggerated," Garrett offered walking out to where we are. Kate put one hand up, wiggling her fingers. "Maybe it only works on the weak." "I wouldn't Garrett," Carlisle began as Garrett stretched his hand towards my sister, neglecting Carlisle, touching his index finger to Kate's palm. The nomad fell to the ground, slightly moaning in pain. "You're an amazing woman," he gasped out after he was recovered. I rolled my eyes - another absolutely perfect couple for this house - and turned my head to where the wolf - Jacob - was leading other wolves out. "If your mom pisses you off, you don't want to rip your head off," he was saying. I could hear two pairs of feet running. "Whoever's coming wasn't invited," Jacob said before phasing. I rolled my eyes. Of course, they weren't invited, if they were, they'd be accompanied by one of the Cullens. I ran after them, quickly overtaking the newer wolves, who were pushing each other out of the way. I didn't need Edward to tell me that they were arguing about who would kill the vampires. I took a short cut, a cut through the grass, hopping over a log, and easily keeping up with Vladimir and Stefan - the new vampires that just arrived. Just when Jacob could almost bite the heels of the Romanian's feet, Stefan jumped up into a tree and Vladimir followed his friend's lead, hopping from tree to tree while the wolves followed on foot, jumping on their hind legs, snarling and growling. Stefan laughed and Vladimir leapt onto the ground. "Whoopa!" Vladimir shouted, giddy with excitement as Stefan landed on the floor and they scrambled up the boulder. Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Bella, Kate, and Tanya came running out. "Vladimir, Stefan," Carlisle acknowledged the vampires. "You're a long way from home." "What," Kate hissed, "Are they doing here?" "We heard the Volturi were moving against you. But you would not stand alone," Vladimir explained for his coven. Duh, why else would there be so many vampires in the area? "We didn't do what we were accused of," Carlisle shook his head, unaware of the action. "We do not care what you did Carlisle," Vladimir waved his hand dismissively. "We have been waiting a millennium for the Italian scrum to be challenged," Stefan added in a matter-of-factly voice. "It is not our plan to fight the Volturi," Carlisle grimaced. "Shame. Aro's witnesses will be so disappointed," Vladimir frowned. The Romans had collected a lot of necessary information on their way here. "The Volturi will fight," Stefan told us. "Aro's witnesses...," I trailed off. What did the witnesses what to witness? Us being destroyed? The largest coven, most civilized coven, be killed? Was that what they wanted? "Still hoping they'll listen?" Vladimir taunted us and he hopped off the rock, into the house.
