Chapter 6

Maggie's Point Of View

I walked next to Tanya and Kate to the battlefield and lined up like little kids. " If we live through this, I'll follow you everywhere woman," Garrett murmured to Kate. "Now you tell me?" Kate smiled. I could hear footsteps advancing and I glanced around. "The red coats are coming, the red coats are coming," Garrett rocked back and forth on the heels of his feet. I rolled my eyes. Did he act like this all the time when there was a war? I gripped my most prized possession - a little ruby with metal twisted in a fancy way. The Volturi appeared and after a few seconds and I locked eyes with Irina before her eyes flickered to Kate, then Tanya. I gave my traitor of a sister a dirty look and the wolves started howling, signaling that they were making their appearance. Carlisle stepped forward, squared his shoulders, and finally spoke, "Aro, let's discuss things like we used to." " Civilized, Fair words Carlisle, but a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled to go against us,"  the leader - Aro - scoffed back. " I can promise you, it was never my intent. No laws have been broken." "We can see the child! Do not treat us as fools," Caius spit back bitterly. "SHE IS NOT AN IMMORTAL," Carlisle called loudly, "These witnesses could tell you that," he said, more quietly, "Or you can look. See the flush of blood in her human cheek-" "ARTIFICE," the blonde man snapped. "I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story. Edward, as the child clings to his newborn mate, I assume you are involved," Aro smiled, flashing his perfect pearl white teeth. Edward nodded, patted Renesmee's golden hair before walking forward to where Aro was. Aro clasped my eldest cousin's hand and read his mind. "I'd like to meet her" Aro finally said. Correction: He wants to meet her, then enslave Nessie, I thought. Edward turned around, and Jacob growled. Bella and Renesmee walked forward a few steps before Bella turned around to the Emmett. Emmett touched Rosalie's hand and stepped behind the group, flanking them. "Ah. Young Bella. Immortality becomes you," Aro addressed the vampires, "I hear her stranger heart," Aro tilted her head. Aro stuck his hand out greedily and Nessie shared a frightened look with Bella who nodded encouragingly.  "Hello Aro," Nessie said formally before using her gift. "Magnifico," Aro pulled away. "Half mortal, half immortal, conceded and carried by this newborn while she was still human," Aro turned to his witness. "Impossible," Caius scoffed. "You think you fooled me, brother?" Jacob growled once more at the Volturi, his fur high like bristles, back arched before following cousin Edward, Bella, and Nessie back. "Bring the informer forward!" Caius announced and Irina speed walked over. "Is that the child you saw?" The quadruple stopped walking back us and pivoted around. I desperately wanted to go to where Nessie was, snatch her, and not let the Volturi see her. I snapped my eyes to my sister. "I-i'm not sure," Irina blurted out. "Jane?" "She's changed, this child is bigger," Irina added quickly. "And you abdications are false," Caius concluded. "The Cullens are innocent. I take full responsibility for my mistake." I looked at my sisters. Kate had a worried glance, Tanya's face was outraged and I was sure, that mine was betrayed. "I'm sorry," Irina practically mouthed, looking at my enraged face. I felt my face dissolved into anger. Anger at the Volturi. A guard twisted off Irina's arms and I screamed. "IRINA," my sisters shrieked. "CAIUS NO!" Edward called and then, another guard beheaded her. I was out for revenge, racing with my sisters forward as Caius set fire to my sister's remains. Bella shoved her daughter onto the russet wolf's back as I blew past them. Eleazer tried to shove Kate out of the way but kate shocked him. Emmett should Tanya's wrists and Edward tossed me into the snow. I looked forward and saw that Garrett had his arms around Kate, who was trying to shock him off. The nomad screamed and Edward shouted from in front of me. "BLIND THEM." Within moments, I was seeing a waterfall. Edward helped me up and I blindly stumbled back, thinking it was a Volturi member. "Maggie, Kate, if you attack, we all die," Edward said as I finally stood up properly as Zafrina let me see. Kate was leaning into Garrett, her posture calm, and Tanya walking back to where we were before. Aro looked at Jane, and Jane looked at Edward. "Pain." Edward sort of sagged down like a string was pulling his right shoulder to the snow. I weakened the witch's gift. Jane's red eyes frantically darted from Carlisle to Zafrina, to Emmett, trying to make them in pain. Edward walked next to Bella just as Jane took a step towards me.
