Maggie's Point Of View
I turned at the sound of Jacob tossing wood down into a ring that I drew out that was meant for the fire. Benjamin's fingers lit up with fire and he ignited the several logs that Jacob put down. "That's what I'm talking about," Jacob said smiling as he moved to sit next to Benjamin and Tia. Tia was laughing. "Well, pre-battle bonfire? Tellin' war stories," Jacob rubbed his hands about four feet away from the fire to warm himself up as I darted past him to sit across from them. The wolf paused for a second to look at the other vampires, "Or just standing there like frickin statues." I laughed and looked over at my sisters. Now that I thought of it, they really did all look like statues. Then, of course, Garrett comes over at the walk of war, "Name any American battle, I was there." "Little Bighorn?" Jacob suggested after a pause. "I came this close to biting Custard. The Indians got him first," Garrett showed about an inch in between his thumb and his index finger. Kate snorted quietly and came over, "Try Olengozen Guadalupe, he didn't win that one on his own." "You're talking back to eleven years of war," Liam called from six feet away. I assume he had won a few wars himself. He was talking to Kate. "You lost the eleven years of war," Garrett shouted over to him. "One hell of a rebellion," Siobhan's mate muttered. The Romans shared a look before telling their time of ruling. "When we ruled, everything came to us," Vladimir said, "Prey, diplomats, favor seekers, such was our power. But we never put on white hats and called ourselves saints." "We were honest about what we were," Stefan said. "We sat still for a very long time, we didn't notice we were beginning to petrify," Vladimir added. "Perhaps the Volturi did us a favor when they burned our castles," Stefan elbowed his friend. "We've been waiting 15 hundred years to return that favor." I shuddered. I didn't want to fight anyone, but this was a do or die situation. I turned my head slightly, to listen to what Edward and Carlisle were saying, about fifteen feet away. "I can't help thinking that all these people have put themselves in danger because I fell in love with a human," Edward was saying. "You found your mate. And you deserve to be happy," Carlisle said warmly. "But at what cost?" I raced over, "Everyone here has something to fight for," I reminded my cousin. "You said it yourself. "For the sake of my family but also for yours. And for the way you want to live." I'm here to fight for the way I want to live," I quoted him. " I certainly do as well," Carlisle interjected quietly. Edward glanced at Bella and Renesmee in a tent as I followed his gaze, "Carlisle, I've never thanked you for this extraordinary life." Carlisle smiled, pleaded that Edward didn't see himself as a monster who took away lived.
