Maggie's Point Of View
Cousin Alice pulled away. "Now you know, that's your future," Alice declared as I locked eyes with Caius, whose eyes turned soft before hardening. "Unless you decide on another course," Alice allowed. "We cannot alter our course, the child still poses a great threat," the blonde man spat. "What if we can ensure that she can be concealed from the human world? Can we leave in peace?" Edward asked. I rolled my eyes, Duh! "Of course but that cannot be known," Caius echoed my thoughts. Alice skipped back to our side as I heard a faint human heart, like Nessie's. Another half-human. "Actually, It can," Edward smiled. A vampire and a half-human man stepped into the clearing. "I've been searching for witnesses of my own, among the Tucuna tribes of Brazil," Alice began to say, but Caius cut her off, "We have enough withness-." "Let her speak brother," Aro interjected. "I am half-human, half-vampire, like the child," the man spoke, "A vampire seduce my mother, who died giving birth to me, my aunt Huilen raised me as her own. I made her immortal." So the half-human was still nameless, the woman was Huilen. "How old are you?" Bella questioned. "One hundred fifty years." "At what age did you reach full maturity?" Aro asked. "I became full-grown seven years after my birth. I have not changed since then." "And your diet?" "Blood and human food, I can survive on either." "These children are much like us," Marcus said quietly. "Regardless what the Cullens have been assorting with werewolves," Caius said, seeming to struggle to speak each time he looked at me. I've heard my sister quote this particular speech a million times. The end of it was, 'Our natural enemies from the born of time.' Aro stopped his brother from talking by placing a hand on Caius's shoulders, "Dear ones, there is no danger here, we will not fight, today." As the Volturi turned to leave, Edward spoke, "Perhaps, you should know your daughter is here, Caius." I looked around. "Who?" I asked, looking from Kate, to Tanya, to Carlisle, to Rosalie. "She's among us, among the covens here: Maggie Denali Volturi," Edward declared. I choked on my own venom and stumbled back into Kate's arms. "What? Prove it!" I hissed. A fair-haired woman shoved her way through the Volturi crowd, "Come here child," she muttered. I trudged over. What if the Volturi were my parents? Would they take me away? "Maggie, do you have a ruby?" "Athenodora," Caius's tone held a warning in it. I sighed as I drew out the ruby from my pocket and held it up for this woman to see. "Maggie Primavera Volturi. Is that you?" Did this Athenodora person just rename me on the spot? "Er... It's Maggie Denali," I corrected. "No. You don't understand. I'm your mother. Your birth name is Maggie Primavera Volturi. I supposed since we did abandon you, you could keep the 'Denali' part as your middle name." "Wait what?" "Maggie Primavera Denali Volturi," Caius smiled, "I like it." "YOU DESERTED HER. YOU DIDN'T WANT HER WHEN SHE WAS BORN!" Kate shouted. "Maggie? You'll have to choose. Between us - your real parents - and them," Caius jabbed a finger at Kate and Tanya, Eleazer and Carmen a few feet behind. "What?" I choked out. "Eleazer," Caius said, "You saved my daughter?" "How do you know she's yours?" Carmen practically sobbed out. "What other explanation is there?" Athenodora asked, pulling out a ruby she had tucked under her Volturi cape. "It's t-the same," I realized, stuttering. "Maggie Primavera Volturi. Choose. Now," Caius commanded. Did I have to choose? Between people who claimed to be my real parents and the people who were there for me for centuries? Would they make me? I glanced over at my sisters. Kate was sobbing her heart out in Garrett's arms and Tanya was looking at me, waiting for my answer. Would they blame me if I choose the Volturi? Would the Volturi blame me if I choose the people who were with me for centuries? Would the Cullens be my enemies if I joined them? Would Caius try to kill my sisters if I didn't choose him? "So many questions, so less time," Aro remarked. I glanced fearfully at my sisters. If I didn't pick the Volturi, then they would try to hurt someone's I loved, that, I was sure of. I drew in an unnecessary breath. "Let me pack up stuff up," I answered uneasily.
