The Unexpected --Dylan O'Brien

chapter 10

Dylan started driving. There's a huge traffic so it might take a while to get home.

He never told me that he's been checking on my mom lately. It's kind of creepy not gonna lie. I am scared to confront him so I just burry myself into my thoughts.

"So how was work?" He asks breaking the non awkward silence.

"Our client cancelled her appointment" I reply

"Ohh" Is all he says

"I'm worried about my mom" I say out of nowhere "she had an accident and my step dad doesn't let anyone see her" I look at him and he turns the car "Dylan what are you doing" I ask him confused this isn't the way home

"We're going to the hospital" He says "it's not his decision if you can or can't see your own mother"

"You know I've never really thanked you for the sacrifices you put up for me" I look at him again "thank you"

"You're welcome but you don't have to thank me" He looks at me and I smile "we're here" He says and stops the car

We both get out and walk into the hospital. I walk to the reception where a lady is seating right in front of me.

"Hello good evening I would like to visit my mother Michelle Leery" I say and she nods

"Let me check which room she's in just a second" She says smiling and looks at her book "it says that she's not allowed to have visitors"

"She's my mother, I have to see her" I kind of beg her and she shakes her head no

"I'm sorry you can't visit her" She says then Dylan pulls her away for a few short minutes "okay fine I'll make an exception but never again" She says

"Thank you so much" I almost yell from happiness, she tells us where to find my mom. Thankfully Charles isn't there. "I have no idea what you told her-" I say but Dylan cuts me off

"And you will never find out, it's a secret" He says as we walk to my mom's room

"But-" He cuts me off again

"No but I told you that it is a secret Hope" He says smiling

"Will you stop cutting me off? I was just going to say thank you" I say as I get a little mad at him

"Sorry" He says

"We're here" I say pointing to the door

"I'll wait for you here, go in be with her" He says and I hug him

"Thank you" Is all I say before leaving him in the hallway

I enter her room and she is sound asleep. I walk closer to her quietly I don't want to wake her up. I just had to see if she's okay. She has a few healing bruises on her arms and a scratch but she's all good thankfully. I write her a short note and put it in her book next to her bed hoping that she will see it.

"I love you mom" I whisper quietly and walk out. "She's okay" I tell Dylan and we walk back to the car "how was your date anyways" I ask Dylan as I remember our first date

"It was good until Britt had to leave shortly after you" He says as he starts the car

"Ohh I'm sorry"

He chuckles "sorry for what it's not your fault"

"Sorry" I say again and mentally slap myself
