((16 years old))

"jennie please wake up... it's been three days"

"jennie please. it's been a week"

"jennie. it's been three weeks. i'm sorry i didn't come see you last week. i had surgery, my arm is kinda messed up but i'll be okay. you just need to wake up now okay?" rosé finished as she put her good hand on jennies sunken cheek. it didn't feel right. jennies cheeks should be full. it all felt wrong.

rosé often thinks she should be in jennies position seeing as she was the one driving the car when it happened. jennie did not deserve to be in that position. rosé and jennie should be getting ready to walk the stage for their high school graduation, not in a hospital walking on egg shells of jennies lack of progression.

rosé didn't want to think too much about it. because if she was lost in thought, she'd be lost. lost in darkness with her thoughts and feelings she didn't want to deal with. she didn't want to deal with much at this point but it was shoved in her face head first, quite literally.

'jen, please. i miss your eyes, your voice, your smile.' rosé said, placing her head in the side of jennies bed. 'i just miss us.' she muttered before finally falling into a deep sleep.

-

the next morning when the nurse done her daily rounds, she looked at the charts and stats for longer than she normally would have. that put rosé on edge. she didn't know if it was a good feeling or a bad feeling. again, she didn't really want to think about it so she got up, placed a kiss on jennies forehead and left for her rehab therapy session.

'i'll see you soon, i love you' she said before closing jennies door.

-

rosé was in her rehab session when a flood of doctors and nurses fled past the room. something in rosé's heart dropped as she stood from her chair and moved towards the door.

"miss park we're not done here." the nurse said but the words fell on deaf ears as rosé watched the nurses file into jennies room. rosé's body moved before her mind could catch up and before she knew it, she was in jennies room hearing the yells of the doctors, the screaming of jennies parents and the flat line machine.

rosé couldn't figure out what was worse, the screams of her girlfriends parents or the flat line itself. both were heart breaking for rosé.

"stop." "stop." "stop. I SAID STOP!!!" rosé screamed, gaining the attention of the doctors and nurses. they all stared at the blonde expectantly. rosé walked over to jennies parents and hugged them.

"you didn't look at her profile did you?" rosé started, pushing her way through the sea of doctors. "she and her parents signed the DNR. she didn't want to have all the fuss. if her body is giving up, let it. she's clearly had enough." rosé stuttered. as hard as it was to speak those words, it was reality. the doctors muttered to one another before reading the file and profile again to then step back.

the nurses and doctors left as jennies main doctor stayed. "i'll let you have a moment with her before we come back and unplug everything. i'm sorry for your loss." he bowed and walked out the door. jennies mom was the first to break. she collapsed on her knees and cried. jennies father was next, joining his wife on the floor.

rosé didn't cry. she couldn't. she was numb. all she did was take her ring off her finger and put it onto jennies. "i'll miss you my guardian angel. i'll see you real soon." she had said before walking out of jennies room before collapsing on the floor.
