Chapter 29

Summer’s mind was overrun by so many thoughts she thought it’d explode. What did he just do back there? He just saved their public fake –oh I mean real – relationship when it was already going down the drain. In fact, Summer thought it had already gone down the drain.

And the fact that he answered them with no hesitation made Summer’s heart melt.

“So,” Jake started as they lapsed into an uncomfortable silence in Jake’s Porsche, “what were you saying before?”

Summer ignored Jake’s question, “Why did you do it?”

“Do what?” Jake asked, slightly annoyed that she avoided his question when he’s been dying to know the answer.

  “Save us,” Summer said softly.

Jake bit his lip, “I…I just had to.”

A few moments of brief silence overcame them and Jake contemplated whether he should repeat his original question but Summer beat him to it.

“Alex showed up as I was just going to go find you in the Mansion,” Summer started, letting out a deep breath, “He told me some stupid made-up reason that you can’t send me home and I…I believed him.” Her voice was small and sounded almost incredulous at the end.

Jake’s jaw clenched. Even the name of that backstabbing bastard angered him.

“So he walked me up my apartment and I let him…I let him in.” Summer’s voice was laced with regret. The car slowly halted as they reached Summer’s apartment building. “I am sorry Jake, I didn’t know, I just-”

But Summer was cut off by Jake crashing his lips on hers. He knew she was telling the truth entirely and it wasn’t her fault. It was that cunning half-brother of his that fooled everyone. Summer was just too nice.

And just like that, they both knew that their relationship was saved, literally.

“Can you just feel the love in the air?” Zach exclaimed once they all arrived at Jake’s penthouse, scattered across the living room.

Everyone shot him a look, but knowing smiles emerged afterwards.

Jake sat with his hand over Summer’s shoulder on the sofa while Havana cuddled up with Zach on the other corner of the sofa. However, Cameron was sat with Danielle on one of the sofas with a deep-in-thought expression on his face. Summer noticed him and quirked an eyebrow.

“Cam?” She asked gently as Jake started playing with her hair, “Everything alright?”

Cam looked up, startled and looked into Summer’s questioning eyes, “It’s nothing,” He muttered.

Summer pursed her lips, “Cameron,” she started, “don’t lie.”

“Just tell them, Cammy,” Danielle said.

After a stare down that seemed to last hours, Cam finally gave in and sighed, “It’s…It’s Amanda.”

Havana raised her eyebrows at him, “Since when did the player fall for a girl?”

Cam pursed his lips, “I just…can’t stop thinking about her.”

Jake sighed amusedly, “You are so whipped, man.”

Cam looked at Jake in pure horror. Clicking her tongue, Summer smacked Jake on the arm.

“Don’t discourage him!” Summer scolded as Jake rubbed his wounded arm.

“Have you talked to her at all since the Ball?” Havana asked as she leaned back into Zach’s embrace.

“No,” Cam frowned sadly, fiddling with his hand.

“It’s been a week!” Havana exclaimed, jumping out of Zach’s arms, much to his annoyance. “Damn it, Cam! Don’t you know how this works?”

“What works?” Cam asked Havana naively.

Havana face palmed and muttered, “I expected more from a player,” before returning to Zach.

“Call her, now.” Summer said. “You should let her know you’re interested, Cam.”

Cam looked at the two newly-taken girls and contemplated whether he should listen to them. Well, considering they were his best friends and they know better about girls than he – surprisingly – does, he decided to follow their advice, “Okay, fine!” They started fist pumping triumphantly, “But then what? What do I do after I call her?”

Havana laughed melodiously and clutched her stomach, but when she noticed Cam’s serious expression, her face morphed into disbelief, “Mr. Player, don’t you know how to do a simple thing called ‘dating’?”

Summer smirked, “Bring her out, be creative.”

  Cam looked clueless, “C-creative?”

All of a sudden, Danielle jumped out from her seat and exclaimed, “I got it!” Everyone jumped in surprise.

“Dani,” Summer said, still frightened by Danielle’s sudden excitement, “chill.”

“Sorry,” Dani blushed, “I just had the perfect idea for a date!”

With that, Dani dragged all the guys to the kitchen and explained her plan.
