Chapter 3
“What are you going to say to your dad?” Holly asked Jake in the kitchen. Summer was currently watching a movie on the flat screen TV in the living room. Jake felt his stomach turn.
“I don’t know,” He said honestly.
“You have a date with another girl this evening,” Holly informed Jake and he rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed.
“God, when is he going to stop?” He said annoyed. “Who is it, this time?”
“Clarice Morley,” Holly said, “the daughter of George Morley.”
“That newspaper company owner?” Jake asked Holly and she nodded, confirming the identity. “I am not going.”
Holly pursed her lips and sighed, “You know how your dad will be like.”
“Well it’s my love life!” Jake protested. “This has to be the 5th girl he’s set me up with.”
“His company is very important to him, Jake,” Holly said softly.
“Still, all of them are spoiled attention-seeking airheads,” Jake said bluntly. Holly shot him a glare.
“That’s mean,” Holly narrowed her eyes at him.
“Okay sorry,” Jake said, “But I am still not going!”
“And you really think your dad will accept that as an answer?” Holly challenged.Jake eyed the living room, where Summer was. “I’ve got an idea.”
Holly turned to the living room and her eyes landed on Summer. She widened her eyes, understanding what he meant completely, “He might not fall for it, Jake…”
“It’s worth a try,” Jake said confidently before walking back to the living room and plopping himself right next to Summer on the couch.
Holly looked at the pair sitting on the couch and leaned against the island counter. She was deep in thought. It was possible. Summer and Jake; it was possible. Someday, maybe…

“Oh my God,” Summer suddenly exclaimed, jumping from Jake’s hands. She had been lying on his shoulder while he put an arm around her shoulders. Jake had floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked most of the city. Summer was suddenly aware of the darkening sky and twinkling night lights.
“What?” Jake said, suddenly feeling the spot where Summer had leaned on him go cold.
“What time is it?” She asked him.
“About 4,” Jake answered, checking his phone, “Why?”
“I need to go!” She scrambled up the stairs immediately.
“Summer!” Jake called out to her as he chased her. Damn, she was fast. She was already at the top of the stairs by the time he reached the bottom of it, “Summer, wait!”
“Look Jake I really appreciated your hospitality and everything but I really need to go home!” She said. She was pale and shock was written all over her face. She ran a hand through her hair in frustration.
“It’s nothing!” Jake quickly said, “Just stay, please,”
“No, Jake, please,” She ran to his room to find her purse. Jake ran up the stairs, taking two at a time.
“Summer…” He dragged her name as he went in his room.
“Shit!” She cursed loudly, biting her lip as she stared at her phone. She had her clothes bundled up on one hand and her clutch purse on the other.
