At a loss for Words

POV Alex

It was just past nine and Dolly insisted we be ‘fashionably’ late. I rolled my eyes at this comment but went along with it anyways. We walked through the throne room, dresses flowing behind us, and were greeted by Jason, Mark and Trey. Lori frowned and walked off, meeting up with a small redheaded girl. With me on Jason’s hip, Dolly on Mark’s and Jezebel’s on Trey’s, we walked into the fully decorated banquet hall. It was dark except the multi colored lights flickering on the dance floor. Fireworks by Katy Perry played in the background and I was so exited to hear music for once. Everything was lined in purple, silver and blue. People I didn’t know danced on the dance floor with grace I feared I couldn’t top.

Without a single word Jason pulled me onto the dance floor right as the next song started; I knew I Loved You by Savage Garden. The lights dimmed as I wrapped my arms around his neck and his hands landed on my waist. I gazed into his eyes and we just swayed a little. My heart was beating at a rapid pace as he twirled me around a little, I laughed at his goofy grin when he almost dropped me. The song ended and we kept dancing like it never stopped.

After the third fast song Jason stopped and turned around. I moved to his side to see who he was talking to, it was Blaze, of course.

“Just one song,” he whined. Anger wiped over Jason’s face.

“Jason,” I warned. Jason looked at me for a second before walking over to where Dolly, Mark, Jezebel and Trey were all dancing.

Blaze pulled me into him and I looked up at his dark eyes. We just swayed back and forth with my arms around his neck and his around my waist. Superman Tonight by Bon Jovi was playing.

“Was the picture your doing?” I asked him, not making eye contact anymore.

“Yes,” he breathed, he looked directly at me.

“Why do you keep doing this?” I sighed, pulling my arm off him and showing him the black pearl on my finger. Blaze tensed when he saw it.

“I heard about that,” he said through a clenched jaw.

“Then why don’t you leave me alone?” I sighed.

“Because I love you,” his voice was soft, just barley a whisper. The song ended and I pulled away from him, looking at my high heeled feet. When I looked back up he was gone. As I made my way to Dolly’s little group I noticed Jason was no longer there.

“Bathroom!” Dolly called, seeing my face, over the now fast and loud music. I nodded my head and danced with everyone.

POV Jason

I followed Blaze’s tall figure through the winding corridors until he stopped in front of a white door. He pulled it open and stepped in.

“I want to go back to the dance,” I said, my voice was sharp and demanding. I looked around to see we were in the white room; the one with the Moon Flower in it. I noticed a small figure standing in the corner of the room, hidden by the shadows.

“You are staying right hear,” Blaze hissed. Blaze pulled a shining silver blade from his suit pocket. The small figure in the corner started to hiss Latin words; a spell. The scent of burning Nightshade masked the room.

“Ava?” I breathed suddenly forgetting about Blaze. Ava stepped out of the shadows, holding a burning Nightshade flower. “What is going one?” I asked her, she kept her spell going without breaking the beat. I was looking directly at her when I felt a pain shoot through my body. I fell to my knees. I heard a scream and soon realized it was me.

POV Alex

I walked out of the banquet hall and looked around. No Jason, sighing I walked to the bathroom. Suddenly a scream cut through the air like a knife. Panic surged through me and I started running toward the scream. Heart beating, head spinning, hands sweaty, when I finally reached were the scream had come from I was standing in front of a white door.

It was slightly ajar. I pushed it open and gazed upon the horrifying scene. Jason lay limp and unmoving. I ran to him, his eyes were slightly open but blood stained the floor. I looked around just in time to see Blaze walk out of the room. I pulled Jason’s head into my lap, tears already stained my face.

“Jason!” I screamed, hoping he would wake up. “You can’t leave me, not yet,” I cried.

“I love you,” Jason choked out.

“I know, Jase. Don’t speak,” I whispered to him, laying my own head on his.

“But it’s true,” he breathed. I shifted so he was leaning on me; he took my hand in his and started to play with my ring.

“I know,” I whispered. The door burst open then, I snapped my head up, fearing it was Blaze but it was only Dolly and Mark standing at the doorway. Slowly they came up to us, Jason’s breathing was slow. Jason looked up at his brother.

“Take care of Maria, she was a sister to me,” he choked, blood still spilled from his side.

“I will,” Mark dropped to his knees. Maria start to weep as Jason’s breathing got even slower.

“Take care of yourself,” Jason looked up at me and smiled.

“I promise I will,” I choked out. Jason put his head on my shoulder and stopped moving altogether. Everything went dead silent. I let out a cry and started to shake. Mark, with tears streaming down his face, moved Jason’s limp body off me. I kept Jason’s hand in mine. Everything was silent again as we grieved over our dead fiancé, brother and friend. The only sound in the room was a faint whisper.

I lifted my head up to see the source; it was the girl I recognized as Ava. I stood up in my blood covered dress, I screamed out something at random. It was Latin; Ava disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

“Alex,” Dolly breathed, taking her face away from he hand. “To become a full witch you must experience a great loss.” Those words hit me like a ton of bricks when I realized what had truly just happened; I looked down at Jason’s body, no rise and fall of his chest, no light in his remarkable gray eyes, no smirk on his face or no life on his perfectly sculpted face.
