During the 74th birthday of Lady Sulley, the arrival of news regarding Samuel O'Cain, the son of two of her guests, Lord and Lady O'Cain, drives her to lend two servants of hers to come to his aid, as he lived secluded in Bright Manor, his late wife's estate in Wiltshire. Among the chosen ones is footman Isaac Foster, who is no stranger to Samuel's situation. As he helps him out and tries to adapt to the different dynamics of living in the country, he develops relationships with the townsfolk, Samuel himself, and the other employees of Bright Manor - among them, Egbert Cawley, the gardener, whose mutual liking soon grows into something deeper and equal parts more beautiful and dangerous.
