Drista glanced at the trees around them, the moon had just come up, gently illuminating their surroundings. She stamped out the fire she and Wilbur had kept going throughout the night. Tommy and Tubbo had fallen asleep against each other, Tubbo's wings wrapped around them like a blanket. Sapnap had set up the tent with Wilbur's help and slept in there. Wilbur gently shook the boys awake and Drista woke up Sapnap by splashing some water from a creek on him.
"Hey," Sapnap yelped, even though the amount of water had been minimal, "what was that for?!"
"It's past moonrise," Drista said flatly, "But if you want to stay here and wait for Clay, be my guest."
"Just give me a second," He said as Drista scoffed and left the tent. She licked her parched lips, glancing around again, there had to be something in these woods. Tommy and Tubbo had disappeared, their stuff gone.
"There's a river not too far from here," Wilbur told her, pointing in the general direction they were already going, "Tommy and Tubbo are meeting us there in a little, just depends on how long they take."
"What are they doing," Drista asked, had they crossed over?
"They wouldn't tell me but they said it was important," Wilbur shrugged, "but they know this is important as well, they won't be long."
"I would hope so," Sapnap said, coming out from the tent. He had his knapsack slung around his shoulder and fresh clothes on, "So where's this river?"
"Just ahead, well when we flew over it," Wilbur clarified.
"So in reality it's anywhere from minutes to hours away," Drista said, "this is a waste of time."
"What happened to you," Sapnap said, "you were so excited for this yesterday."
"Well I thought about things overnight, and I don't think it's a good idea for you to be with us," Drista snapped.
"Me," He protested as Wilbur just gathered up the tent and did his best to erase traces that they were there, "I'm the only way you'll be safe in my uncle's castle."
"We have Tubbo, he's an angel, we would be fine without you and could cover more ground," She said.
"Look, midnight flowers," Wilbur held out some white flowers with blue growing on the edge of the petals and spread, "they turn blue!" His personality, they found out, had a tendency to fluctuate. This Wilbur seemed to be very happy with his yellow sweater much more vibrant, contrasting against his pale skin, but his voice echoed and cracked.
"That's, uh, great Wilbur," Sapnap took the flower and suddenly some of his worries, doubts, and fears were washed away. The flower turned a darker blue and soon crumpled in his hand.
"Woah," Drista said as she too took a flower, feeling almost at peace for the first time in years, almost forgetting why she wanted Sapnap to leave. Almost.
"Please have some more," Wilbur picked more as they followed the river they grew by, "calm yourselves."
Sapnap pulled his waterskin off his belt to collect the water. "Don't!" Drista said, pulling him away, "some of the rivers around here have magical properties, most of them bad. I think we need to wait for Tommy and Tubbo to make sure this one won't poison us or erase our memories."
"I wonder if the water is affecting the flowers," Sapnap said aloud, it would make sense, he had never heard of dangerous rivers other than the creatures that lived in them.
"Well if a siren lives in the river then it's safe," Wilbur said absently as he collected more of the flowers, they seemed to almost immediately turn blue but not to dust in his hands.
They continued down the river, accepting any flowers Wilbur gave them because it seemed to make him happier. He also seemed to not be bothered by the water, but they didn't want to risk it since ghosts were different from other creatures.
"Hello!" Tommy said, appearing behind Sapnap, making him jump.
"We brought food," Tubbo held up a large bird, still dripping with blood. Sapnap nearly threw up seeing the carcass. Drista licked her drying lips, staring hungrily at the blood. She hadn't felt this way since she had been turned, even then it was way more intense.
"We knew you'd probably be hungry," Tommy said as Tubbo handed over the bird, "we don't need any extra food, but you do need fresh blood."
"Thank you," Drista said before sinking her fangs into the animal and soon draining it, the blood wasn't as good as the stuff the Count supplied but it satisfied her thirst.
"We should get going," Sapnap said, "do either of you know what's up with this river and the midnight flowers?"
"Here, have some blue," Wilbur held out flowers to Tubbo and Tommy at the mention of them.
"Okay," Tommy took them and let out a gasp as they turned to dust.
"Didn't Phil talk about those," Tubbo said watching as they crumbled in his hands, "something about them taking away all your sadness."
"I never listened," Tommy shrugged.
"I think he might be close," Drista blurted out, "Clay that is, we should pick up the pace and go if we don't want this journey to take a week."
"She's right," Tommy said, reaching out his mind, "I can barely hear someone. That means they're far out."
"Drista! Check this out," Tubbo said, his hand outstretched as a rock floated towards him, it then dropped in his hand, "I've been practicing."
"That's great," Drista said, Tommy just turned his head away, "maybe one day you'll be able to lift up bigger things."
"It sure would make holding a sword easier," Tubbo chuckled, he did have a way of seeing the good in things.
Of course he gets the cool floaty power, Tommy thought, all I do is invade others' privacy. He secretly hated who he was, why couldn't he have been an angel like Tubbo, and Philza at one point, then at least they would have enough to carry both Drista and Sapnap, making the trip faster. The first time he found out he had the power he heard everything, even vampires' thoughts. He learned to block them, until the power faded and he could only hear what he wanted. Tubbo didn't know though, he never let on how much he could do if he wanted. Tommy not only had seen their thoughts but fears and buried thoughts as well. And he has told only one other creature about it.
Technoblade was the only one who knew exactly how powerful Tommy could be.
Not too important, just wanted to include that. Then again there is Chekhov's gun hehe, much like something else. Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! Chapter 13 will be out tomorrow. Hope you guys have liked this. And as alway please vote and comment. To anyone having a bad day, have some blue!
