"Okay, what is going on with you," Sapnap asked as Clay looked over his shoulder for the tenth time that morning, he had been tailing the prince all morning and glaring at all of the angels and humans in the castle.

"Just being careful, anyone here could be out for you," Clay said, "I've been assigned to be your bodyguard."

"Heavens and angels above," Sapnap sighed and shook his head, "You're being paranoid, Clay."

"You three," Sapnap groaned as Clay stopped an angel and two human servants, "Your names immediately."

"Thomas," The older human said, "this is Toby and Sara."

Sapnap was going to tell Clay to give it a rest but there was something oddly familiar about the two boys but he couldn't place it. Clay studied them for a second before finally telling them to carry on.

"I don't need a bodyguard, I can take care of myself," Sapnap said.

"Oh like how you 'took care of yourself' yesterday with that demon," Clay countered.

"He only threatened me because you threatened his friend," Sapnap said, "also speaking of yesterday's encounter you seemed pretty spooked when you saw that ghost. Why?"

"It's complicated, let's just say 'being an assassin is messy work' and leave it at that."

Sapnap rolled his eyes, always avoiding questions, classic assassin technique.

"Is it just me or did that guy who stopped us feel oddly familiar," Drista asked them as she picked at the clothing they had taken, how did humans live without silk or any nice fabric. Tommy and Tubbo just chuckled, "What?"

"Oh nothing," Tubbo smiled, "Just that we ran into him and his friend last night. We would have been dead at that moment if we didn't use the potion."

"And thank the Count that it does," Tommy muttered.

"Excuse me," a young angel woman with blonde hair stopped them, she held multiple scrolls in her arms, "You haven't seen Prince Sapnap around have you?"

"Uh, no sorry, miss," Tubbo said.

"Oh dear, thank you anyway," she said before hurrying down the hall.

"Her name's Nihachu," Tommy said almost automatically, "and apparently the prince is the guy we ran into yesterday."

"I hate when you do that," Tubbo muttered, referring to Tommy being able to read some creatures' minds, "it's creepy."

"Yeah, well we need information one way or another," Tommy said and Drista nodded, "and I find my way the easiest. There are tons of angels here which makes it even easier."

"Wait, can you see into my thoughts," Drista asked.

"No, vampires are the hardest minds to see into as far as I know, so I don't bother," Tommy explained, "Angels are the easiest."

"Like I said, creepy," Tubbo said, "can we stop talking about it now."

"Alright fine, Drista stop picking at your clothes," Tommy said, "how about we split up. Sara, you follow that angel, Nihachu, tail the prince and his friend. Toby see if you can find the high ranking angel. I'll find somewhere to hide and search the angels' minds. You remember your cover stories?"

"Of course," Drista rolled her eyes, "I probably have the best memory out of all of us."

"Just go so that we stop drawing attention to ourselves," Tommy sighed, Tubbo continued down the way they were going, Drista turned around and did her best to catch up with Sapnap, Tommy slipped into the next hallway that split off from the main one.

"Ah, Miss Nihachu," Sapnap greeted, "what do you need?"

"The King requested that I get these scrolls to you as soon as possible," She explained as she held them out, he took them and immediately handed them back to Clay.

"Yes, we'll get right on that," Clay said, using the hand he had open to push Sapnap away from the room he was about to go into.

"But the study's right there," Sapnap said and Clay shushed him.

"It's a nice day out, we'll be outside, Miss Nihachu," Clay said, a little loudly, he then whispered to Sapnap, "Don't look now but that servant girl I stopped has been following us for the last five minutes."

"You're being paranoid again," Sapnap said as George came out of the study and followed them, "George, please tell Clay that he's being paranoid."

"I'm sure he has good reason to," George said, "I mean we have no idea what the vampires next move will be, for all we know it could be 'recruiting' more humans."

"Don't we do the exact same thing," Sapnap said, "I mean that's the whole reason for the draft. Because the angels need us to help and actually be able to have a chance?"

"But it's different," Clay said, "the vampires are turning humans against their will."

"But the draft is mandatory, we are sending more humans onto the battlefield against their will," Sapnap argued, "hundreds of young men die out there just to come back as an angel or demon."

"He does have a point," Someone else said, suddenly appearing next to Clay.

"Skeppy," Clay said, "what are you doing here?"

"That's me," He grinned, "But take it from someone who has seen both sides of the war, you guys are in the right."

"Told ya," Clay said, "vampires bad, humans good."

"I'm still not convinced," Sapnap argued, "cause what demon protects an angel? They even said they're like brothers to each other."

"For all we know that angel was raised on demon and vampiric culture," Clay said, sneaking a glance back, why was she still following them? And where had the other two gone? "Brainwashed like the rest."

What if you're the brainwashed one? Sapnap thought, but he didn't say anything knowing that Clay and George would just call him crazy and that he 'needs to stop seeing the good in demons when there isn't any.'

"Alright, if you say so," Sapnap eventually said, after a moment of silence between the group he tried asking, "How do you know that ghost and demon?"

"It's a long story," Clay muttered, tired of Sapnap asking over and over.

"I have time," Sapnap said, he was tired of Clay avoiding the question.

"So do I," Skeppy added.

"They're not going to stop asking," George said, surprising Sapnap, did he get the story before him, Clay's best friend.

"Fine," Clay grumbled, knowing that George was right, "but not here."

"Yes," Skeppy said, "story time with Dream."

"Alright, but promise this won't change what you think of me," Clay said as they reached the courtyard and the morning sun shone brightly.

"I think it makes who you are today, Clay," George said, "everyone does things they regret, it's apart of being mortal."

"9 years ago I was finally of age to complete the assassins' rite of passage. My assignment; a family was harboring a ghost. A human family. What I didn't know was that ghost was also family..." Clay started.

And I'm going to end it there. In the next chapter there will be a fully fleshed out flashback, including what was going on with the Sleepy Bois. There will be more than that but you'll just have to wait and see what it is. Thank you all for reading and please vote and comment!
