Wilbur groaned, rubbing his head as the sun slowly poured in through the windows, he was still getting used to actually having to sleep. Huddled in the corner near the empty bed Philza had slept in the night before was Tubbo. He hugged his knees close to his chest, the halo above his head emitting a soft yellow glow.
"Tubbo?" Wilbur asked, "are you doing okay?"
"I thought I heard him," Tubbo's voice broke and his eyes were red and puffy, "he was in my head."
"Oh," was all Wilbur said, "You don't have to come down right now, I'm sure Lord Eret will understand."
"I need to though," Tubbo said, "Tommy will be mad if he gets here and I haven't eaten anything." How had he suddenly recovered? Almost mechanically Tubbo walked to the door as if nothing was wrong, he even had practiced his ability by pushing the door open with telekinesis.
"Hi Tubbo," Niki said at the door as he walked past her, he absently greeted her as well, "Hey Wilbur."
"Oh, you're Niki, right?" He looked up at her from glancing underneath Phil's bed.
"Yeah, you looking for something," Niki asked as he moved the pillows and blanket.
"A scroll case," he said.
"Like this one," she reached over to the shelves and picked up a red cylindrical case with black markings wrapping around it and on the ends.
"Yes!" He took it and looked at the ends where two different symbols were, "I need to show this to Drista, she might know what these mean."
"Well glad I could help," Niki sighed as he ran out. Wilbur ran past Tubbo to the dining hall where Drista and Eret were talking.
"Oh, Wilbur, good to see you," Eret said.
"Do you recognize either of these," Wilbur shoved the scroll case into Drista's hands. She turned the case to look at both sides, the first one she looked at was an engraving of a boar's head. Drista did know the other mark, an engraving of a mouth with fangs and two elegant bat wings spread out on either side.
"Yes," she whispered, that was the royal vampiric crest, her crest, "but I don't think this was from the Count."
"What is it?" Tubbo came in after seeing the hurry Wilbur was in.
"My dad got a message from someone so Niki helped me find the scroll case," Wilbur explained as Drista let Tubbo look at it.
"I know this one!" Tubbo exclaimed, looking at the other crest, "Philza told me this is your family crest."
"Which means Techno must have sent this," Wilbur said.
"That son of a demon," Drista growled curling her fists, "he thinks he can use the authority of the Count to send messages."
"What if," Tubbo muttered, "no, he wouldn't, would he?"
"What are you thinking," Eret said.
"Techno always seemed a little bitter towards the council, yet he worked hard to rise through the ranks," Tubbo said, letting himself think aloud, "is there anything you know Drista? Cause what if he killed the Count."
She didn't want to consider the option, but with him anything was possible, "he was very loyal and worked hard to please the Count, but he was the one who suggested to swarm your front with vampires."
"But that would leave the manor unprotected," Tubbo said, "we have to start thinking like Techno. The manor unprotected plus the Count thinking he's untouchable would leave an opportunity for Techno to kill him and make a believable lie. And knowing Techno he most certainly has the skill to."
"Then I need to get back to make sure we're not jumping to conclusions," Drista said, starting to walk out but Eret stopped her.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea Lady Drista, your expertise is most needed here. I know that you want to stop this war as much as I do, the best way to do that would be to convince my brother that you are willing to call back your soldiers to the Nether." Eret explained.
"Or to overthrow him," Sapnap said from the other side of the room, they hadn't even noticed him and Clay enter, "as king I could call off the fighting."
"It's more complicated than that," Clay said, "I've learned things from the league that the king won't tell you. The humans aren't behind the war, this is a rivalry that goes back centuries, one between the angels and vampires."
"And before that the angels and demons," Eret added, "you pulling out of the war would invoke the rage of whoever rules the angels. They have remained a close guarded secret, some even say that their orders come from the gods."
"Then I find out who they are and negotiate ending this war, have they even tried a diplomatic approach?" Sapnap argued, "I know plenty of people who would support me, angels too. Hundreds saw how my father did even care about me and nearly executed you."
"Making a move would be foolish," Clay said, "Our wounds are too fresh and we're not thinking rationally. Let's wait a few more days and on the third moonrise of you still feel the need we'll head to the vampiric manor to see the status of the Count."
Drista and Sapnap reluctantly agreed, both felt that they needed to do something now. Tubbo couldn't help but wonder what was in the scroll Technoblade had sent Phil. And why hadn't he told them?
Wilbur took Tubbo out and asked him if he was alright, to which he responded, "why wouldn't I be? We're going to stop the war."
"You've been acting a little weird," Wilbur said, trying not to mention Tommy, maybe this was just a coping mechanism, "but if you ever need anything I'm here for you."
"You're a good brother, Tommy always talks fondly of you," he was talking as if he hadn't known Will for years and just knew what Tommy had told him.
But at least he was happier.
