Chapter 14 - The Call

I woke up that morning in Danny's arms. It was 7:00am, I wriggled out of bed and put on an oversized t-shirt, then quietly crept down stairs. I knew what I had to do, I had to call Josh. Ask him if he's okay, and give him some closure.
I went outside so I didn't wake anyone up, and made the dreaded call, as the phone rang, my heart pounded harder and harder, this was either going to be very awkward, or very depressing, I couldn't see anything good coming out of this, but I had to do it, then maybe Josh and I could just get on with our lives.

After what felt like forever, Josh answered his phone. "Hello?" He said, in a croaky voice, he sounded terrible. It made me feel even worse. "Hi" I replied, there was a deafening silence for a while, then he replied "what do you want Katie?"
"I.. I just.. I heard about what happened. Are.. Are you okay?" I stuttered nervously, he laughed sarcastically, "I am laying in a hospital bed because of you, do you really think I'm okay? Leave me alone. There's nothing you can say or do." He told me, then hung up the phone.
I dropped my phone and covered my face, "what have I done?" I mumbled to myself, then looked to the sky to stop a tear from falling.
Moments later I heard someone coming down the stairs, I took a deep breath and turned around, "are you okay?" Danny asked me, I forced a smile and nodded, he smiled and headed towards the kitchen.

I sat on the couch, Danny was making coffee and toast, I'd just slept for over 8 hours yet I still felt exhausted.
Although I wouldn't tell him, Danny knew that something was wrong, he brung me my coffee and toast, then held me in his arms, we sat there together in silence for a while, after I'd finished breakfast I snuggled into him, he pushed my hair away from my ear and whispered "everything will be okay", I hugged him even tighter and shut my eyes.
I woke up about 2 hours later, I looked up at Danny and he laughed, "I don't know how you fell asleep again" he said, I smiled and couldn't help but giggle, the sound of Danny's laugh made me so happy. I rubbed my eyes and jumped off the couch.
"Let's do something" I said.
Danny smiled, "I could take you out for lunch" he suggested, I smiled and nodded, then skipped upstairs to get ready.

Danny took me to a nice cafe, it had pretty decorations, and good music playing, as I looked at the lunch menu, he grabbed it from me, "wait, I haven't decided yet" I said, he smiled at me and left his chair, I was confused. He went to the front of the cafe and came back with 2 different menus, he placed it infront of me, dessert menus, I looked at him with a confused look, "I know you're not telling me everything, and that's okay, but I know you're upset, so forget lunch, we're having dessert, pick anything you want" he told me, I smiled and hugged him, and couldn't stop smiling as I looked at the menu.
We finally decided, he chose the banana split with chocolate ice-cream and a chocolate milkshake and I chose a slice of chocolate mud cake with tropical fruit juice, as we ate we made jokes and silly faces, and told eachother funny stories, it was a perfect day, the most fun I've had in years, and it made me forget about everything that had happened.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the shopping centre, then Danny took me to the park to watch the sunset, then we went back to my house and watched a movie together, eventually falling asleep in eachothers arms, a perfect ending to a perfect day.
