My skin burned as the sun was gazing upon my back. I had taken off my shirt and was walking in my bra, Taylor not far behind. We had barely made it out the city as 5 hours had seemingly passed. I was dragging my feet along the hot asphalt, it felt as if I was melting into the road.

"Look, apparently our exit is only a few miles up the road" Taylor said, reassuringly. I looked at her and then looked down. I needed a break. "Water break" I said, as I sat down on the side of the road. Taylor walked over and sat beside me. I scavenge through my bag looking for a bottle of water. I grabbed me and Taylor one.

"This sucks ass." Taylor murmured.

"I know it does, and we have a much longer road ahead of us."

I chugged my bottle of water in hope that my energy would be recharged, like a herb for a video game character.

"Do you think everyone back home is okay?" Taylor asked.

"I sure hope so, I don't want to think about them not being okay." I replied.

"You're right, I still don't know what's going on."

"We'll we're in the same boat."

I gazed over the horizon at the long stretch of road and car carcasses.

"Taylor, where the hell did all the people who were driving those vehicles go?"

She set her sights on the road

"I really don't want to know." She said.

I shoved my bottle back into my bag and got up, offering a hand to Taylor.

The only thing me and her could do was continue the journey. I took a deep breath in and we both started walking. The eeriness and the feeling of unseen danger was unbearable. The hairs on the back of my neck was constantly pointed. I felt vulnerable as neither me or Taylor had a weapon. We creeped past cars and had a complete watch of our surroundings. I read the stickers on the back of each car we walked past. It made the time pass by quicker.

The winds picked up and the whistling sent chills down my spine. "Rain." Taylor said, looking up at the sky. "Do you think we can wait it out in a car? I'm almost certain one of them is unlocked." I asked. "Down the road a bit, the storm isn't here just yet." I nodded agreeingly and we continued walking.

About twenty minutes down the road the storm started. I felt raindrops hit the top of my scalp. I nudged Taylor. "Now can we get in the car?" "Yeah let's find one."

I yanked open the doors to a nearby Honda. "Honda? Really?" Taylor asked. "Right now, a golf cart would do me good." I replied, as I jumped into the front seat of the car. Taylor walking over to the passenger side.

The rain got harder, everything outside the windows were blurred.

"I wish I could check into news outlets." Taylor said.

"Me too, I was hoping maybe what we felt was the big one but that doesn't explain the shape that man was in."

"Maybe it was a seizure, wrong place, wrong time."

"No that wasn't a seizure, I have explaination on what that was."

"I don't know then, hey, do you think it'd be okay if I slept while it rained? I need it."

"You don't need to asked me." I responded.

Taylor smiled and curled up against the window.

I leaned my head back into the seat. I felt so confused but oddly enough felt like I knew what I was doing. There was apart of me that didn't want to know what was going on, like the truth was better left unsaid. I was scared, lost and cold. My heart started pounding and it felt like I was going to throw up my own heart. My throat locked a sense a pure terror rained over me. My chest was getting increasing tight. I began thinking about my family, my mom, dad and Emilie. I didn't know if they were dead or alive. Everything was spinning.

Taylor shot awake.

"Kaitlyn, are you okay?" She asked.

I looked at her and wheezed.

"The hell, are you having an allergic reaction to something?"

I nodded no.

"I'm having...a.. p-panic attack." I choked.

Taylor looked just as confused as me.

I gripped onto the steering wheel in a hope to regain control. I wanted it too stop. I started taking deep breaths and eventually I was calm enough to communicate.

"I'm really sorry, I haven't had a panic attack in so long, everything going on must have triggered one." I said.

"No it's okay, I just got scared, I didn't know what was going on." Taylor said.

I gulped and let go of the steering wheel. The rain started to slow down.

"Do you just wanna wait here a bit longer?" Taylor asked.

"No it's oka-" I stopped.

I shifted my attention to the group of people staggering down the road. I watched them in the side mirror. Taylor noticed them too. I counted four. "Sink down." I whispered. Me and Taylor both sank into our seats. The group stumbled by. I could hear the gasps and crackles from inside the car. My brain finally accepted that we are infact in a zombie apocalypse. The group finally made it a few cars in front of us. We sat back up.

"We gotta make a way out." I said.

"How, they might fucking eat us alive."

"Sneak."

Taylor looked at me, disapprovingly.

"Is there something in here?" She asked.

She opened the glove department and a heavy sounding object fell out. She stopped for a minute and reached down to grab it. To my surprise, she pulled up a pistol and showed it off.

"Well isn't that cliche." I said, jokingly.

She smiled and slowly got out the car. I followed behind her.

"Wait is it even loaded? Do you know how to shoot it?" I buzzed around her head with questions.

"Yeah, I used to go to shooting range with my step-uncle."

"Well these are monsters, not targets."

"What's the difference?" She asked.

I threw my hands up and backed away from her. She started walking and I followed behind. We creeped slowly on the side of the road, trying to evade the zombies.

I gritted my teeth as a twig I stepped on snapped. The four zombies jolted thier attention towards us.

"Fuck!" I yelled.

"Taylor take the shot!" I yelled.

She pointed the gun up at the zombies. I could see her hands shaking. She was hesitant. They inched closer and closer.

"Taylor! Now!"

She was still hesitant. I took action into my own hands. I ran up and yanked the gun out of her hand and started shooting. All four fell to the ground. "Are you okay?!" I asked. She was pale. "How did you kill them so easily?" She asked.

That single question made me stop and think. 'How did I kill them so easily, why didn't I think?'

"I guess to save both of our asses." I replied, handing the gun over to her.

"I couldn't kill, my body wouldn't let me." Taylors' voice shook.

I looked down.

"Well we only have two more bullets, let's save them and scavenge as we go." I stated. I began walking and Taylor walked beside.

I couldn't believe myself. I killed so heartlessly. My brain didn't bring up the fact that they are still human, it just registered them as enemy's. This was gonna be a grueling walk.

Hey everyone! This chapter did include Kaitlyn having a panic attack, I'm just noting that Kaitlyn experience is drawn from my experience !!
